SUMMERWIND VINEYARD OPENS TASTING ROOM
In conjunction with Virginia Wine Month, SummerWind Vineyard celebrated the grand opening of its tasting room on October 13th. SummerWind is a family-run vineyard in Smithfield. The family planted over 10 acres of grapes in 2005 and had been selling the fruit all over the state until they produced their very first vintage. The tasting room features five wines: Petit Manseng, The Cabernet Franc, "Warwick Squeak" Sparkling Rose, a red blend named "The Pagan," and "Two Rivers White," a blend of Chardonnay and Viognier.

The tasting room is located at 71 Eagle Nest Lane, Smithfield and is open Fridays and Saturdays, (11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) and Sundays (11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)

Isle of Wight Academy Awarded Agriculture Grant
Isle of Wight Academy (IWA) was the recipient of a $500 mini grant through the Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom grant program. With the funding, IWA will start a school garden that will provide its preschool through middle school students a hands-on learning experience in growing and caring for plants year round. The garden will be incorporated into the school's STEM curriculum.
