Personal Condolences from the Filmmaker

Within a very short time of each other, Jay Whipple Jr. and Paul G. Allen recently passed away. These gentlemen had strong connections with Chesley Bonestell’s art, and each played a key role in getting Chesley Bonestell: A Brush With The Future onto the screen.
Jay Whipple Jr. served as a trustee of the Adler Planetarium and was a passionate collector of Bonestell paintings. Early on in the film's production, Jay helped me gain permission to shoot a temporary exhibition of Bonestell paintings at the Adler Planetarium. Later, he was instrumental in arranging an interview with astronomer Dr. Lucianne Walkowicz at the Adler. Both events are featured in the film.
Vulcan, Inc.
Paul G. Allen, through the auspices of his companies Bonestell LLC and Vulcan Inc., was instrumental in providing access to his collection of Bonestell memorabilia and paintings. Of particular note was his granting me permission to film a rarely seen installation presented by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, called “Imagined Futures.” That exhibition is featured in the film.

On behalf of everyone connected with the production of Chesley Bonestell: A Brush With The Future, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of Jay Whipple Jr., Paul G. Allen and the employees of their companies. Without the support of these two gentlemen, this film would not have been possible.
