The Small Batch List
October  26th, 2018

A busy work week this week, so the Small Batch List is short 'n sweet.
Here's what I've been enjoying:

1) Have you tried Amazon Prime? If not, sign up for the free trial because there are at least two good things worth checking out on their streaming service - I Love Dick and my new favourite, The Marvellous Mrs Maisel (written by the very marvellous Mrs Amy Sherman-Palladino. I like this way better than her previous series  The Gilmore Girls - way, way better.) And while you're there don't forget to watch Mozart in the Jungle.
2) Threads of Feeling - "Fabric swatches from the eighteenth century tell the moving stories of mothers and the babies they gave up to the Foundling Hospital [Bloomsbury, UK]. This exhibition showcased never-before seen fabrics that illustrate the emotional moment of parting between mothers and their babies at the Foundling Hospital. In the case of more than 4,000 babies left at the Hospital between 1741 and 1760, a small object or token, usually a piece of fabric, was kept as an identifying record." Fascinating and moving
3)  I've been doing a life design course here on Salt Spring which has been life-changing for me. Totally. It's based on several different methodologies including design thinking and an approach which came out of the The Stanford Life Design Lab. The founders Dave Evans and Bill Burnett have released a book called Designing Your Life and I highly recommend it. Find a crew to work on it together - collaboration and supported ideation is one of the biggest keys to doing awesome things. If you happen to be local to Salt Spring Island or Vancouver Island register your interest with Heather Hopkins.
4) Hey you non-sleepers out there. I have a tip! Every night I fall asleep to a free guided meditation on the app Insight Timer.  Search up "Yoga Nidra for Sleep" - by Jennifer Piercy. You can listen to it online here too. (H/T Heather F).
5)  The Big Feels Club: "Ever feel like your feelings are too big for your human form? Like maybe you have whale-sized feels, surely not the feelings of an average human? Us too." Forums, group support, podcasts and articles for those of us who feel big feels. I am sure this will be incredibly useful to some of you out there.  (H/T Dave - thank you! )
Thanks to those who entered last week's draw. I am sending out a new copy of Truly Tan, Baffled! and some other goodies to the very lucky Kate in Avoca Beach, New South Wales.

See you next week!

p.s. 100 points for guessing the quote in the subject line!  Last week was a line from The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by the amazing Axel Scheffler.
