Building-wide News
You should have received your student’s progress report card, which was walked home on Friday, October 12th. This progress report is an initial check-in to communicate academic challenges/strengths and how to best support your student.  Please take a moment to review both areas of strength and need for development with your child. If you have specific questions regarding progress or assistance, please contact your student’s teacher(s) and/or school counselor.

Seventh Grade

In math next week we’ll be starting projects in both Math 7 and pre-Algebra. Please read our weekly updates for complete info of what’s coming up. There is a section in the update for parents and for students.

Media Literacy students finished up their projects about digital citizenship. On Thursday, School Counselor Mrs. Mayo came in for the first of her monthly visits to discuss wellness. Thursday's lesson was about the way our brains can sometimes distort our thinking. Students were enthusiastic participants in the discussions.

Student Auden Gruber-Hine created a portrait in veggies with his
produce from our farmers market!

Eighth Grade

In English, we are reading a section of the text Touching Spirit Bear; students also have charts to complete each night for the reading. In class we are talking about the literary device flashback, the human emotion of rage, and the concept of restorative justice.

Music

The Harmony Bridge program is well underway and our students have been preparing for the arrival of guest artist and professional trombonist Michael Levine. Mr. Levine is a founding member of the Dallas Brass (http://www.dallasbrass.com/) and also the founder of the Harmony Bridge Project (https://www.harmonybridge.net/overview). He will be in residence here in Tburg on October 17, 18 and 19 during which time he will provide clinics to our students and staff, rehearse the middle school and high school bands and help the students prepare for their kick-off performance at Juniper Manor on October 19th. You are encouraged to visit the links above for additional information on this important and unique program and to learn more about the Dallas Brass. We are very excited for the upcoming week and look forward to sharing more information with you in the weeks to come. Don’t hesitate to reach out to any of the music faculty if you have any questions!
