Welcome back after the half term and a special welcome to all our new little ones who have joined us recently.  Now the countdown to Christmas begins!
News

Operation Christmas Child - Thank you so much for all your support with our annual Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal.  We shall be told in due course which country our boxes have gone to and we shall be sure to let you and the children know.

 

It is very important to us to ensure that the children gain a broad perspective of the world, learning for example about how similar yet different homes, lifestyle, individuals and education near and far can be and making those connections.  We embrace questions from the children as they try and make sense of our world around them and to give them life experiences that also foster empathy and respect for others.

 

Operation Christmas Child is one of the ways in which we do this.  If you would like to know more about how we do this or ways in which you can be supporting this outlook at home please come and chat with us.
Christmas Cards & Gifts - You will be receiving your childs artwork shortly to order any cards and gifts you would like.  Once you have received it you will have until 16th November to place any orders.  If you have any questions please contact Abi Kendall or Daria Turner who are managing the project for us this year.

 
Staff Update - Lana Streeton has joined us as  a Pre-School Assistant.  With a passion for music and playing the piano we are looking forward to enhancing our pre-school even  more with additional musical activities.
 
Sunrise Senior Living Residential - Our older children will start to be visiting Sunrise in November.  Parents will have received letters with further detail, please do return the permission slips promptly.
Requests to Parents
Donations - As I am sure you aware we are a community based charity which relies on donations and fundraising to keep it operational - the funding rate received from the Government simply does not cover our costs.  We have now made it even easier to donate via Paypal simply by clicking this link.  We urge you to donate anything possible to keep the environment at the pre-school the best it can be - your money will go towards their snacks, arts and craft supplies, new equipment amongst other essentials.
Easyfundraising - With the time to get all your Christmas shopping underway its never been a better time to get yourself signed up for Easyfundraising on behalf of the Pre-School.  It really only takes a few minutes to sign up and then all your online shopping can help us raise funds for the Pre-School at no cost to you.
 

Winter Clothes - Its time for winter hats, gloves and scarfs - please can you remember to label them.  Please can you also check your child's bag on their peg to ensure any spare clothes are suitable for cold conditions.

A handy tip for gloves: children find it easier to manipulate and handle objects if they are wearing the fingered gloves rather than mittens.  The children have access to the whole of the outside area all year round so we do recommend all in one wet weather gear too.  We do have a stock of wellies but feel free to bring in a labelled pair if you wish too.
Early Years Advisor
Literacy - During the meeting we held at pre-school last month for parents of children who attend on Fridays (the rising 4's), I talked about children's literacy.   I highlighted the importance of establishing firm foundations for literacy through supporting children to develop pre-reading and pre-writing skills.  I also talked about how parents can play a vital role in their child's literacy journey through regularly reading to them, as well as chatting about the story as they read it. We have now added some helpful literature on the subject in our "Helpful Hints" section of the website, including some "shared reading tips".  You will also find a link to the youtube clip, I mentioned that evening, which gives a demonstration of how children should be taught to pronounce the sounds (which is different to how many of us were taught!).
Events & Dates for Your Diary
Pre-School Social - Please join us on Thursday 8th November at 8pm in the Three Horseshoes for a drink or two and meet some of the other parents.  We look forward to seeing you there.
Christmas Jumper Day - Monday 3rd December Please send your child in wearing a Christmas Jumper and make a donation towards our Christmas Hampers which will be raffled off in our Christmas Raffle.  Donations can take the form of something festive, food (non-perishable) or drink, something to pamper yourself or anything else which you think would be nice to make up part of a Christmas hamper!  To give you some more specific ideas of what to donate please have a look at this list:

Pre-School Nativity - This will be taking place on Monday 10th December at 9.15am. You will receive details about costumes and roles in due course, but please do bring your child down to pre-school at 8.50am whether they are in the Lions or Tigers Group and come into the hall for a cuppa whilst you wait for the grand performance! All are welcome! There will be no Tigers session in the afternoon on this day.
The Great Pre-School Bake Off - Monday 10th December
Alongside the Nativity Play we are holding a Bake off Competition. On the morning of the Nativity please can all parents entering drop their cake to Jodie or Kelly in the car park ready for display and for judging. We will be offering slices of the cake at the nativity for suggested donations therefore please provide a list of ingredients for allergy purposes. A prize will be allocated for the parent and child given it will be joint effort - remember it does not need to be a work of art, just have fun and show off the results!

Christmas Party - The Pre-School Christmas Party for the children will take place on Monday 17th December from 9.30am-12.30pm for both Lions and Tigers. There will be party games, a party lunch and a visit from Father Christmas too! There will be no session for the Tigers in the afternoon.

Easyfundraising - Keep making those online purchases using www.easyfundraising.org.uk. Every penny you spend can raise money for our Pre-school.

Phone Calls
- Please can we request that any calls to the pre-school to inform of illness etc are not made during the times when children are arriving and/or leaving as we are not always able to answer the phone.  Please ring either side of 8:45 - 9:00 / 15:05 - 15:20. 
- Please do not email a child's absence as emails are not always read through the pre-school day.  
- The main Pre-School telephone number is 01494 730060, the admissions telephone number is not constantly checked therefore please do not use this
 

General Admin

- Please regularly check your child's pigeon pocket

- If there are any changes to contact details (including childminders/nannies), addresses, doctors etc. please let Hannah know on seer.green.preschool@gmail.com

- All available ad-hoc lunch clubs and additional sessions are listed on a sign on the noticeboard

 

Washing Up

- There is a sign on the noticeboard to indicate who is doing the washing up that day

- If you can't make the allocated washing up slot please email other parents to arrange a swap

- If there are certain days of the week you can't help with washing up please let Hannah know on seer.green.preschool@gmail.com


Facebook - We have a closed facebook group, where we share what your child has been doing that day.  Please let us know if you would like to join it.
