Don't Call it a Comeback.

After the success of this year's Annual Club Dinner the club newsletter is looking to piggyback on the comeback momentum.

Season 2018 was mixed in success for the Senior Section of the Club. Stronger off the pitch than it was on the pitch. A link to the Captain's Reports is below.

The Ladies and Junior sections again shone through, growing in numbers and also increasing the amount of opportunities given.

A newsletter relaunch wouldn't be complete without a headline piece. With that in mind, we have an interview with 1st XI Player of the Year and recent Scotland squad call-up Michael Carson.

Club legend Keith Flannigan also picks his all-time XI as part of a new feature.

The Club introduced the 100 Club Baggy Maroon to those individuals who have represented the 1st XI in more than 100 matches. A total of 32 players were awarded caps and the full list can be found here.
The WCC Golf Day out was held at Prestonfield GC last month. Club Champion turned out to be Euan Robertson with Jodie Dunz taking the Women's Trophy.
The Club AGM has been set for Tuesday 20th November at 7pm.
The Ladies Section have been training hard on Friday evenings and recently entered the Wee Bash at Hutcheson Grammar in Glasgow. A detailed report and some images will be included in the next newsletter!

At the end of a glorious long summer of cricket, the WCC Youth Section celebrated in style with it’s inaugural prize night on 28 September. Fuelled by some excellent in-house Myreside pizza, the evening started with a quiz. Bill Uttley guided us through 3 rounds of trivia, none of which was too much for the U16 table who stormed though questions covering cricket, music and general knowledge to take (and immediately eat) the winner’s prize.

The main event was the award of some fantastic trophies to some highly deserving young cricketers. John Reid presented the following awards:

U10
Sportsmanship - Danny Milligan
Attitude and Team Contribution - Angus Robson

U12
Best player - Jamie Thomson
Most improved - Gavin Biggar

U14
Best player - Daniel Bryen
Most improved - George Baltzer

U16
Best player - Gregour Carr
Most improved - Alexander Abbey

Additionally, the overall player of the season shield went to Daniel Bryen for an outstanding season with both bat and ball for U14, U16 and Senior 4th XI. Overall the event capped off a fantastic effort by all our youth members as well as many team managers, scorers and parents who have all played a massive part.

Having celebrated the end of the 2018 Season, we’re now straight back into winter indoor coaching under the leadership of our new coach David Hinchcliffe. Further details are available on the website here.
