Nationwide KiwiSport Regional Partnership Fund (RFP) review update
Sport NZ are currently undertaking a nationwide review of the KiwiSport Regional Partnership Fund (RPF). The KiwiSport Review is future focussed, with the objective to identify how KiwiSport can best impact young people’s participation from 2020 onwards to support New Zealanders developing a life-long love of participating in community sport.

Recommendations (developed following an extensive consultation process, led by Sport NZ) will be submitted to the Sport NZ Board in November. An update will be provided to the sector in early 2019. If any changes to the KiwiSport RPF are approved by the Sport NZ Board, these will not take effect until July 2020, in line with Sport NZ’s new strategy.

Thank  you to everyone who attended and contributed to our KiwiSport RPF review in June.
Active NZ Survey 2017 - regional results
The Sport NZ Active NZ Survey is a rolling nationwide survey that provides valuable information and insights on how New Zealanders are currently engaging with sport and recreation. It provides a point-in-time snapshot of participation through the lenses of age, gender, ethnicity and deprivation, with results based on responses from over 27,000 adults (18+) and 6,000 young people (5-17years).

Topics covered in the survey include; participation, barriers to being active, events and memberships, volunteering, attitudes and high performance, health and lifestyle, and demographics.

We now have regional data available from the Sport NZ Active NZ Survey. Some regional highlights include:
  • 96% of Young People (5-17years) participate in 10.4hours of sport and active recreation per week
  • 77% of Adults (18+) participate in 5.4hours of sport and active recreation per week

Acknowledging volunteers - sharing their story
Our Volunteer Senior Adviser Ken Allen has developed a case study of a volunteer who has made a positive difference to her sport and its people. The case study is a story of Bubs Rewiti, told by some of the people around her. Such stories are wonderful ways to acknowledge volunteers who have made a real difference because they are so meaningful for the volunteer. There are lots of simple ways to tell a story, such as a book of letters, a framed photo with comments , and even a simple video taken on a smart phone.

Physical Literacy: The Multisport Approach
This multisport approach aligns with physical literacy principles which is being advocated for by many prominent researchers (e.g. Dr. Joe Baker and Dr. Jean Coté). It is leading the way in Canada where it has recently captured the attention of the media.
