Dear Parents & Friends

Welcome back to Term 4.

We have a lot happening this term and we will keep you in touch via our social media platforms. If you haven’t done so, could I urge you to download the Schoolstream App onto your mobile device. Messages come through from the school clearly identified which grades they relate to, so you don’t have to spend time looking at messages that don’t concern your family. In light of the Years 6 and  5 excursions coming up this term it would be nice to know that parents can be kept in touch, particularly if we happen to be running late.

Years 5 and 6 Excursions.

Thanks to the parents who have spoken to the school about concerns with the excursions for their children. Our aim for for every child to have the best experience that they can and with us having any additional information helps us to achieve this. Most students, in our experience, are anxious about going away and this is normal, it should never be a reason for them not to go. Please continue to discuss with the staff any concerns you or they may have. If you have financial concerns please contact me.

School & Parish Mass

Can I please request that we make an extra effort to attend the School & Parish Mass on this Saturday Night at 5pm. We will have 4 students who will be confirmed on  the night by Father Joel. These students attended the Tournament of the Minds in Sydney and I would appreciate as many of the Year 6 classmates turning up as possible to show their support.

ICAS Testing

For a number of the years the school has offered participation in ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools) Testing of students. Over the past couple of years the numbers have fallen to a point where it is no longer viable for the school to participate in these competitions.  As such we will not be offering these tests in 2019.

Fortnite Online Game Do your children play this game?

Albury Police are getting reports of frauds relating to online gaming accounts used by children.   The reports relate to the improper use of online accounts, mostly related to the game Fortnite.

Confirmation at our Parish/School Mass for Term 4

We invite all families to join us in celebrating a special Parish/School Mass this Saturday, 20th October at 5.00pm. Four of our Year 6 students will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation during this Mass as some of these children were representing our school at the Tournament of Minds state finals in Sydney on the weekend of Confirmation.

We encourage the Year 6 students and their families to share in this celebration with their classmates.

October is Catholic Mission Month.

The theme of the 2018 Schools Catholic Mission Appeal is, ‘Healing a nation through Education’. This year we learn about life for many people in Myanmar. We learn how we can help heal a nation through education. We learn about the children at St John’s School in Hakha, Myanmar, who now have an opportunity to learn by experiencing, investigating, playing and questioning. We also learn about children at St Joseph’s Centre for Children and Adults with HIV/AIDS.

First Reconciliation

The Year 2 students have begun preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Please keep these children and their families in your prayers.

Important dates:

Parent/child meeting: Tuesday, 23rd October at 6.00pm in the Church. We look forward to seeing you there. (Week 2)

Picnic with Fr Joel: Wednesday, 14th November in Zone 4 from 5.45pm – 7.30pm.

First Reconciliation: Wednesday, 21st November at 6.00pm in the Church.

Together Catholic Newspaper can now be downloaded online.  Click here to view it. There is a great story about the Tournament of Minds

MATHS NEWS

Welcome back to Term 4. I hope you and your children had an enjoyable break.

This term we are trialling a new routine for sharing the Maths challenge and Maths information with our parents and carers.

A number of parents have asked if I can share the Weekly Challenge separately to the newsletter so instead of including this in our fortnightly newsletter I will share this, and other suggestions for assisting your child/ren at home with Maths, the opposite fortnight to our newsletter. I am hoping this will make the information more accessible.

I would appreciate any feedback about this new routine.

Have a great week,

Lea Allibon   ~  Targeting Maths Teacher

RE:  UPGRADE TO SCHOOL STREAM APP
Dear Parents,
We are looking forward to the new School Stream update being released on the Apple and Google Play Store.
Please check that you update the app when it’s released. You can even set your phone’s app updates to automatic. Here are the instructions for the Apple App Store (https://goo.gl/mvC9as) and the Google Play Store (https://goo.gl/XCgkL1).
To get the most out of the app features we do recommend creating an account so you can easily manage the content the school sends through.
To create an account, go to the side menu via the top-left corner and click on "Log-in". This is a quick and easy process that will require your first and last name, and a mobile number, email, or Facebook account authorisation.
Once you have created your account, you will be able to access all of the new app features.
