CEO's Message

Dear friends,

I am pleased to announce that the cohort of Tutu Associates that you met in March this year have completed the Archbishop Tutu Leadership Programme and are Tutu Fellows.  They were taken through the rigours of the programme at Mont Fleur in April 2018 and the second stint at Oxford University and in London in September.

In this edition, we also cover other happenings in our alumni community – job promotions; MI’s new album inspired by his journey as a 2017 Tutu Fellow; the Fellows’ acts of service on Mandela Day; a Fellow’s fight against Ebola; a Fellow spearheading an anti-bullying campaign;  a Fellow contesting in the 2019 Nigerian elections.

As August was Women’s Month in South Africa, four female Tutu Fellows – Lynette Ntuli, Stacey Brewer, Dr Mandisa Maholwana and Dr Theo Mothoa-Frendo - were celebrated in a series of interviews that aired on CNBC Africa.  The interviewer was none other than Nozipho Mbanjwa, also a Tutu Fellow.

Last but not least and on a sad note, 2016 Fellow, Peter Biar Ajak was detained by the National Security Service in South Sudan in July of this year. Despite appeals by the Fellows to the government and many other international actors, there are still no charges levied against him and he remains in detention.

Warm regards,

Jackie Chimhanzi PhD
