Youth News
Youth News is a regular email service which provides sectoral news alongside programme and funding opportunities. It is circulated to a readership of 700+ including youth clubs, regional voluntary youth organisations, government departments, MLAs, Education Authority, policy makers, practitioners, sponsors and various grant giving trusts and foundations. Boys & Girls Clubs will host our 78th Annual General Meeting and Presentation of Awards to recognise and highlight young people's activities & achievements over the past year.

Keeping Children Safe Training

Boys & Girls Clubs is pleased to announce we will be hosting a free 6 hour 'Keeping Children Safe Training' course for our club membership. 

Wednesday 28th November 6:30-9:30pm
&
Wednesday 5th December 6:30-9:30pm

Boys & Girls Clubs Offices

This course supports staff and volunteers interested in learning about or revising their knowledge of safeguarding practices when working with young people.

Inspirational Youth of the West 2018


Voting is open for Inspirational Youth of the West 2018 which spotlights young people under 18 across West Belfast, as well as School Principals, Teachers, Classroom Assistants, Youth Leaders and Coaches.

These awards will highlight young people and their outstanding achievements across 28 categories and will be celebrated with a gathering for celebration hosted by Barra Best at the Devenish Complex on Friday 9th November 2018.

Beyond Safeguarding Event

The Charity Commission and NICVA are hosting a half-day conference: Beyond Safeguarding on the 11th December 2018. This is in response to high-profile scandals involving charities not only working overseas, but also in the UK.

This conference will focus on protecting the good work of charities by ensuring that ethical culture and behaviour is paramount and is actively promoted.

ESB Wind Farm Community Fund still open for applications

Community groups, sporting organisations, schools and charities working in the vicinity of the wind farms at Crockdun, Crockagarran, Eglish, Curryfree or Carrickatane can apply.

Grants of around £5,000 are available for projects addressing one or more of the themes of: • Education & Skills • Health, Safety & Wellbeing • Environment & Habitat Conservation • Energy Efficiency & Sustainability • Culture & Heritage • Recreation, Sport & Social Inclusion

The closing date is Friday 7th December.

Key fundraising dates

In addition to Boys & Girls Clubs Fundraising Training for Clubs, NICVA have announced some key dates for your diary.
 

The Tampon Tax Community Fund

Aims​ ​to​ ​support​ ​women​ ​who​ ​are​ ​most​ ​marginalised​ ​to​ ​overcome​ ​barriers that​ ​prevent​ ​them​ ​from​ ​fulfilling​ ​their​ ​potential. ​5-10K grants for a wide variety of projects, that make a tangible and long-term difference to health, well-being, confidence and social/economic activity, as well as addressing equality gaps. 
Closing Date 31 Oct 2018 1pm.

 

The Edgar E Lawley Foundation

Grants for general charitable purposes with particular reference to medicine, to elderly persons, and to educational purposes with reference to the arts, commerce and industry. Typical grant size is £1,500.  Usually ~800 applications with just 125 funded. 
Closing Date 31 Oct 2018.

 

Golsoncott Foundation

Average grants £500-£1,000 to promote the arts and in particular fine arts and music. Key criterion is excellence. Projects involving young people should offer a long-lasting connection with the art-form and a significant level of participation and achievement at a high standard. Annual grant spend under £80,000.

Boys & Girls Clubs is a Voluntary Youth Headquarter Organisation that works to support and represent a membership of over 150 youth clubs and youth organisations with a collective membership of some 15,000 young people across Northern Ireland.  Working alongside our membership and network we involve, support and enable young people, particularly those from disadvantaged and less fortunate backgrounds, to participate in positive activities, new experiences and learning opportunities.
