EVENT SUGGESTIONS FOR THE COMING WEEKS

In Our Hands: Film screening and Q&A @Bertha DocHouse, London
Tue 16 Oct, 18-20
Join the Landworkers' Alliance for a screening of their film 'In Our Hands' followed by Q&A session.
In Our Hands explores a quiet revolution that is transforming the way our food is produced and distributed. Our current industrial food system is a vast and wheezing giant that is only upheld by a stilted subsidy regime that pays out to landowners and leaves many farmers by the wayside. This feature-length documentary profiles the emergence of a new generation of farmers who are outgrowing the industrial food system with a vision for post-Brexit food production that redefines our relationship with food. We stand on the brink, the future is uncertain, but the seeds of a better food system are In Our Hands!
This event is part of We Feed the World, a global photography exhibition capturing the triumphs and tribulations of smallholder farmers who produce 70% of the world’s food. Visit the Bargehouse Gallery, Southbank, London, 12-21 October 2018. More here.

Community Wealth Building Workshop: An Economy For All @The New Room: John Wesley's Chapel, Bristol
Wed 24 Oct, 10-16
Community Wealth Building recognises that places do not necessarily need to attract new wealth to grow economically and socially. Instead, they need to harness existing wealth which comes through, among other things, their anchor institutions, procurement spend, complementary currencies, banking practices, and community businesses.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Exploration of the concept and practice of Community Wealth Building. How Community Wealth Building approaches are a key element in building a fairer economy. A look at the successful examples.
WHAT I’LL LEAVE WITH:
An understanding of the need for community wealth building strategies. The four key aspects to Community Wealth Building approaches. International and local case studies.

FINALLY
All of you reading this have signed up to co-create The Alternative UK. Respect to you for knowing that an alternative is possible. We need your help and participation but know in return that not everyone has the time to do more than they are already doing. Not everyone can put the political work at the centre of their project – but they hope and wish that someone would. That someone is us. Please support our work so that it will get done – not just in a minimalist, marginalist way, but in a real and connected way that will cause lasting change. A one-off donation helps enormously. But a regular donation is a game changer.
