Introducing our fall practicum students

OurDigitalWorld is working with three practicum students from the University of Toronto iSchool this fall. We’ve got a number of neat projects working with our data and collections, and we’re delighted to have some bright and engaged students to help us out. Here are our three students and their projects.

Upcoming Conferences

Several of our VITA Toolkit partners will be presenting at the Ontario Museum Association's Annual Conference at the end of the month, including about the digitization of the Tweedsmuir history books by the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario.

ODW Media Coordinator Allana Mayer will be presenting at the Ontario Women's History Network Annual Conference in Ottawa on October 27th - let us know if you'll be attending!

Ontario First Nations Public Library Week and Ontario Public Library Week

The first week of October was Ontario First Nations Public Library Week. We celebrated by featuring some great materials from our two First Nations VITA members, Six Nations Public Library and the Kanhiote Tyendinaga Public Library - and by revisiting a research project from last year that relied on those two collections amongst other VITA contributions to dive deep into the history of lacrosse in Canada.

Ontario Public Library Week is October 14th to 20th. We'll be chatting about what makes public libraries special when it comes to digitizing special collections, and releasing some results from our recent survey on digitization in Ontario's public libraries. Keep your eyes on our social media for more!

Coming up: ODW @ OpenGLAM

From November 5th to 16th, we'll be at the helm of the @OpenGLAM Twitter account, running discussions about all aspects of our work and how Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums can collaborate to make their collections more open. Plus we'll be featuring innovations and clever projects from you, our VITA members!
We'd love to have you participate and share your questions and thoughts with the OpenGLAM account's international audience. We're especially interested in helping to identify things that Canada's GLAM institutions have in common with heritage around the world! Talk to us @ODWorg on Twitter or through our other communication channels if you have anything to suggest.
