Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice Announces Executive Director

Anne Fontana, Chair of Hospice Care Avon Maitland (HCAM), is pleased to announce the appointment of Lana Burchett as Executive Director for the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice. As Executive Director, Lana will be accountable for the planning, implementation & monitoring of an innovative model of care for Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice and the Visiting Volunteer Program.   Family Services Perth Huron has worked closely with the hospice to ensure that the Visiting Volunteer Program remains a vital community service that will be provided by Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice as of March 31, 2019.

Lana comes to us from the Peel Region where she is currently the Executive Director for Victim Services of Peel.    She has a broad range of experience in the not-for profit sector, working with clients in difficult situations and working with organizations having many volunteers.   Lana has held Executive Director positions in community based organizations, including the North Okanagan Family Resource Centre Society, North Okanagan, BC, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Halton Regional Chapter and the Vita Centre for Pregnant & Parenting Youth and worked in fund development at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation, BC.

“As Executive Director, I look forward to working towards the official opening of the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice”, shared Lana. “This is an exciting opportunity to develop a centre of excellence in palliative care, and provides a meaningful way to share in people’s end of life journey.”

Did you eat or decorate a Smile Cookie in September in support of Hospice? If you did, you were among the 18,475 people in our community who did so!! Wow, that’s a whole lot of cookies! Thank you!
Furnish your Hospice
Coming this month, in time for holiday gift giving we’re excited to unveil the Furnish Your Hospice wish list!

If a sofa bed or a hot bowl of soup made the difference for your stay with a loved one at hospice why not consider designating your donation towards an essential wish list item. When you donate, you are giving the gift of comfort and care for others in our community. Watch your mailbox for a hard copy version and please feel free to share with friends and neighbours!

As always, thank you for being a champion for hospice among your peers!
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Despite the rainy fall weather we are forging ahead! The foundation is in and the steel and elevator shaft has been erected. The exterior walls have been framed and the hydronic in-floor heating has been installed. Weather permitting, the concrete floor will be poured and we can proceed with framing the interior.

On Friday, December 7th at 7:30pm, a dramatic reading of this Christmas classic, plus musical interludes, will take place at the Stratford Festival Theatre. Ticket sales and proceeds will support the Because You Care Capital Campaign. Last years event raised and incredible $40,000! Help us surpass that amount by joining us this year.

To buy tickets please call the Festival Box Office at: 519-273-1600 or online at: http://www.stratfordfestival.ca/christmas-carol
Over the past few months, we have met some amazing volunteers who are already proving to be extremely reliable, enthusiastic and eager to help! We have just over 100 volunteers currently in the process of completing their screening and training, which means we’re one step closer to opening our doors. We will rely on the compassionate care of volunteers to directly support the residents however there are many indirect roles (such as baking, reception, gardening, fundraising and special events) that are invaluable in providing quality care, free of charge, to our families. It’s not too late to submit an application! If you or someone you know is wanting to know more about the volunteer opportunities available or how to get involved, please contact Katie at kjervis@stratfordperthhospice.ca or 519-273-1020 x117.
DONOR STORIES

At the ground breaking event on June 21st guests were invited to write their personal reasons for caring and giving. We’re honoured to be able to share these inspirational messages:

Why I Care…by Marg Illman:
Being in our seventies I know we will both have a need for this. I want my final days visiting with family – NOT THEM LOOKING AFTER US.

Marg Illman is a member of IODE, Festival Jubilee Chapter (Stratford). The IODE members were early supporters of the Because You Care campaign and have already paid off their pledge commitment of $25,000! We are now thrilled to share that they are continuing to support the campaign by donating the proceeds of their upcoming Holiday House Tour on November 24 & 25. (See our website for details). Thank you, Marg, and your fellow IODE Festival jubilee chapter members!

Together, we can all have an impact and be part of a legacy in caring. The Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice will be here for everyone in our community, and it is being built thanks to everyone in our community.
