Eugene Featured By Wine Enthusiast Magazine

"Long known for counterculture politics, the outdoors and a robust craft beer scene, Eugene may not seem like a destination for wine lovers. But this is a city of contrasts, one which proves that not all wine regions look alike.

Surrounded by pine forest and cattle farms, Nike-clad University of Oregonstudents drink macchiatos at coffee houses, next-generation hippies sell cannabidiol (CBD)-infused products on the main drag and wine lovers hop on bikes to ride to nearby wineries. Located at the southern tip of the Willamette Valley, Eugene is positioned perfectly for a wine-focused vacation."

Certified Cider Professional Training in Eugene

Tue 10/23 from 5:30pm - 8:30pm at Wildcraft Cider Works

The United States Association of Cider Makers introduces the Certified Cider Professional program. This first ever cider accreditation program is designed for distributors, servers and others who are interested in becoming bonafide experts on all things cider.  This course is only being offered in 4 cities across the country and Eugene is one of them.

Hard cider’s popularity has dramatically increased in the last several years, and now there is a way for food and alcohol industry professionals to prove their cider knowledge—the Certified Cider Professional program (CCP). USACM has released CCP as online exam that allows test takers to become CCP level one certified. Exam questions fall into six categories: (1) Apples, the orchard & history (2) Cider making (3) Flavor & evaluation (4) Cider styles (5) Keeping & serving (6) Food & cider.

Kraft Heinz Co Launches $100mm Venture Fund

Kraft Heinz Co is joining the ranks of Big Food peers with a venture capital fund focused on concepts that are shaking up the food industry, such as supply chain technology and e-commerce.

The packaged-food giant has committed $100 million to start a new firm called Evolv Ventures, which will invest in food technology companies. To lead the Chicago-based fund, Kraft hired Bill Pescatello, a founding member of Peacock Equity, an investment group put together by NBCUniversal and GE Capital.

“There’s a ton of disruption in the food industry driven by technology and new models,” Pescatello said in an interview. Evolv will focus on startups working on supply chains, logistics, e-commerce and direct-to-consumer projects, he said.

Oregon Wineries Step Up to Support Fellow Growers

In the midst of a state investigation and wine harvest season, a California winery suddenly canceled contracts last week for more than 2,000 tons of Southern Oregon grapes — a $4 million dollar collective loss for more than 15 growers.  But as word spread this week, Salem-area wineries stepped in to help, buying some of the grapes in an attempt to reduce their fellow growers' losses.

The Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce is conducting interviews to better understand how the organization can best serve local industry.  As part of their greater Business Retention and Expansion Program (BR&E), the Chamber is collecting information privately and aggregating the results to tell the narrative of the industry and inform the work of economic development agencies across Lane County.

This is your chance to ensure that the Eugene Chamber and partner agencies are working to serve your needs!

These narratives help The Eugene Chamber of Commerce work with the city and county to improve policies/programs that affect our local industries.  For example, there is one component of the survey that addresses the permitting concerns of the industry.
