Following their tremendous success in Newcastle, the BFG will perform at the Northside Jam on 30 October. Between sets 1 and 2, at no extra charge, we'll see the BFG Uke Opera's special repeat 30-minute performance of their Newkulele Festival item. Yes, it’s the 5th Tuesday of October rather than our regular fourth Tuesday!

A Few Chords from the President
October's been a busy month, with a Ukulele Cabaret, workshops from visiting celebrities, several public performances from BUMS bands, three festivals to attend (Glen Alpin, Newcastle and Bulimba), and a great dress rehearsal from the BUMS Festival Group (BFG) at Deception Bay, before their appearance at Newcastle's Newkulele Festival. It was a pleasure to be a part of it. Be sure to see it for yourself at the Northside jam venue on 30 October at Wavell Heights.
At Newkulele we formally launched promotion of the SPRUKE 2019 festival, which will be held at the Sunnybank Performing Arts Centre (SunPAC) on the weekend of 13, 14 and 15 September 2019. Some great acts have already been suggested, and with so much talent in Australia, there is no doubt we will be truly entertained by a fine line up of gifted ukulele performers. Save the date!
Be prepared too for a busy line up of workshops for the start of next year. Our Events Coordinator has much to announce over the next few months, and great discounts will apply for BUMS members.
Last of all be ready for the BUMS Christmas Jams at Coorparoo on the 5 December, Toowong on the 12 December and combined Northside celebration at Ferny Grove on 19 December. Remember to wear a suitable costume to win best dressed!
I hope you enjoy our second jam feature ... the TOOWONG DAYTIME JAM!

Toowong has been our most popular daytime jam for four years. In 2014 Sue and Peter Sercombe started the BUMS daytime jam. They celebrated the jams fourth birthday. Here's what Geoff Dancer says about the Toowong jam.

Our first BUMS Cabaret, the brain-child of President, Max Borchardt, was a roaring success. David Megarrity MCed the evening brilliantly as Tyrone. John Greenaway reports.

If you love the Blues, I hope you made it to Hal Brolund's workshop on Saturday 13 October at the Coorparoo Bowls Club. Over 30 people turned up to learn how to dress up the 12 bar blues in style. Hal's structured and well-paced workshop had everyone experiencing success. Coady's view.

Russ Copelin brought an energetic and fun-filled workshop all the way from Alaska. We learnt lots of subtle fretting and strumming techniques to improve our versatility. Find out what Coady thought.
