A Message from Pastor Fran Elrod
This Sunday, October 21, we are delighted to welcome one of CUMC’s supported missionaries, Dr. Chris Hena who leads Healthy Women – Healthy Liberia. Dr. Hena will share a message of hope, along with updates from her ministry and experiences in Liberia at the 8:30am and 11:00am worship services. She will visit early in The Vine service at 10:30, so that she may be welcomed by our whole CUMC church family. I encourage you to be here Sunday to hear how CUMC serves in mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world as we support Dr. Hena’s calling and passion serving Christ as a servant to our brothers and sisters in Liberia.
If you want to be a part of a church family that sees all the people of the world as brothers and sisters…come to Clemson UMC!

CUMC Outreach – Shoebox Ministry Kickoff!
Please help us achieve our goal of at least 120 Christmas Shoeboxes! The Shoebox Ministry is a great opportunity for all CUMC members and families to get involved with a fun project that helps children in need during the holidays. Again, this year at CUMC, we will be sending shoeboxes from our congregation to the Spirit Lake Ministry Center.
The Spirit Lake Ministry delivers shoeboxes to children on seven reservations in the Dakotas and Minnesota. Their primary target for shoebox distribution is children in foster care on the reservations and children in households recommended by social services and clergy on the reservations. These shoeboxes are the only gift that most of these children receive during the holidays. Boxes will be blessed on November 11 during Sunday services and will then be sent to North Dakota for distribution.
Want to help? Here’s how you can get involved:
- Pack a box! We will distribute packing instructions and labels this Sunday, October 21 at the entry doors to each service. Plan to return your packed box on November 11 so that it can be blessed during the Sunday service.
- Donate! Want to participate, but don’t want to shop? No problem! Please include a donation for $20 (marked for Christmas Shoebox) in the offering plate and we’ll be happy to purchase supplies so that a box can be packed in your honor at a packing party at CUMC.
- Host a packing party! We encourage Sunday school classes, UMW Circles and other groups to host a packing party so that you can have fun packing boxes together.
- Have questions? Please email Kate (kate.barger@cobb-vantress.com) or Lyn (lmcmshef@gmail.com).

Clemson Area Ministers’ Cook-Off
Bring your appetite to the Christian Life Center of Clemson United Methodist on Thursday, November 1, (5:30-7:00pm) and join your neighbors for the 16th Annual Clemson Area Ministers’ Cook-Off. Ministers from 14 area congregations will be showing off their culinary skills in support of Safe Harbor shelter for victims of domestic violence. Pastor Fran will be serving “Anna’s Amazing Sausage Balls”. Weather permitting, WYFF weatherman John Cessarich will broadcast “John On The Road” from the cook-off. Taste tickets at $1 each are sold in groups of ten. Tickets are available in the church office and before/after the church services and Wednesday Night Live. They can also be purchased at the door.
South Carolina continues to have very high rates of criminal domestic violence. It usually ranks as one of the top ten states for percentage of deaths due to domestic violence. Safe Harbor provides a continuum of services for adult and child victims of domestic violence in Greenville, Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties. Services include emergency housing, meals, counseling, clothing, parenting classes, and referrals to other support groups. When clients leave the shelters, Safe Harbor helps furnish housing needs and basic clothing. All proceeds from the Cook-Off will be shared between the Oconee and Anderson County shelters.
