Congratulations to the ReStart September

Student of the Month, Rebecca Lara!

Rebecca earned her student of the month title by working hard and showing dedication to her academics. She is passing all of her classes with A's and B's, has made a tremendous effort to be at school on time, and is maturing in many ways. We are really proud of her!

Smart Grid for Schools

with Mrs. Chevalier's Science Class

Illinois State University has developed and implemented a Smart Grid for Schools program, which offers schools the opportunity to learn about the new Smart Grid technology currently being rolled out by the utilities companies in our area. This program engages students, with Smart Grid in a fun, hands-on way, and incorporates Next Generation Science Standards.

KEC students have an opportunity to explore a simulated “Smart House”, using model homes, which have integrated tablets, wifi, led bulbs, position sensors, and programmable thermostats, and solar panels. Students get to use the tablets, to control the different aspects of the house, such as the color of the lights, the temperature settings, and will know if the car is in the garage, or the windows are open or closed.

The next part, is to see how the power grid was created over time, and how it will change to a Smart Grid, which will virtually eliminate future power losses.

Jonamac Orchard Field Trip

Ms. Johnson organized a Restart field trip to visit Jonamac Orchard in early October. Mentor groups raced through the corn maze together and enjoyed the orchard. Congratulations to
Ms. Harned's mentor group who made it through the corn maze with the fastest time!

Stoddard's Art Class

Mrs. Stoddard’s art classes began their Tape Art project this week. Come to the KEC Open House on Wednesday, October 17th to see their finished work!
