Word to the Wise

One of my favorite times of year is Autumn. The reason why is because it is a season of change that is beautiful. At the same time, if you have a wrong perspective, you can become sad or disturbed because things all around you are changing. Well, this is a new and interesting season for me. My children are grown and starting families of their own. The focus on certain things in my life have changed and now I am learning how to adjust to the changes. Why am I sharing this with you? I really want you to have a godly perspective about the changes that take place in your life. Sometimes, people can get down and depressed when things take place in their lives that they either don't expect or are not ready for. To be able to transition from season to season, you have to take on the same mentality that the Apostle Paul had.
Philippians 4:11-13 NLT “Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
Whatever season you are currently transitioning through, do not allow the enemy to cause you to see the changes as negative. Look at things from God's perspective and continue to receive that God's best for you is yet to come!

Putting Our Flesh Under: Our Hearing

We are still in the Putting Our Flesh Under series of lessons. This month we will look at our hearing. I cannot emphasize enough how important our hearing correctly is for the times we are living in. Deception is a trick the enemy is using to cause people to fall and it all starts with what people hear and allow into their minds.

What we listen to and how we listen are very important. What you are listening to can determine the type of life you will have.
Mark 4:24-25 NLT “ Then he added, "Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given--and you will receive even more. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them."

First of all, we have to determine what the final authority is in our lives. God's Word has to be the final authority in each of our lives. We cannot allow the opinions of men and worldly thought be the determining factor in our lives. If we want God type results in our lives, we have to listen to what He is telling us through His Word regarding how to conduct our lives. We want what we hear to be beneficial to our lives, not to curse us and bring destruction.
Luke 11:28 NIV “He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."
Hebrews 4:2 GNT “For we have heard the Good News, just as they did. They heard the message, but it did them no good, because when they heard it, they did not accept it with faith”

One of the things I hear people ask a lot is about knowing if what you are hearing is from God or not. You always have to refer to God's Word. Is what you are hearing lining up with the Word of God? If you don't know, you need to spend some time in the Word finding out. If you do not have a desire to get into the Word to make sure that you are hearing from God, you may want to check what kingdom you are in.
1 Peter 2:2 CSB
"Like newborn infants, desire the pure milk of the word, so that you may grow up into your salvation,"
John 10:27 KJV “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:”
John 10:4 NLT “After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice.”
John 8:43-45 ESV “Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.”

The last point I want to bring up regarding our hearing is that God does hold us accountable for what we hear. When His Word or wisdom from His Word is spoken into our lives and we do not take heed, there are consequences.
Acts 3:23 BSB “Everyone who does not heed His words will be completely cut off from among the people.”
Deuteronomy 18:19 BSB “And I will hold accountable anyone who does not listen to My words that that prophet speaks in My name.”

God's desire for us is the best life and hearing what He says and being obedient to what He says will determine whether or not what God wants for our lives will manifest. Choose to hear and obey!
Isaiah 55:3 NLT "Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.”

Questions:

1. Is God's Word final authority in your life?

2. Do you the opinions of men override what God's Word has said in your life?

3. Do you struggle with knowing whether or not you are hearing God?

4. Do you want the God given type of abundant life with the blessing or do you want the consequences of the curse?
