Lane Shifts Planned as I-85 Widening Work Continues

BRASELTON – Drivers in Barrow, Gwinnett, and Jackson counties will experience traffic impacts this week as overnight work continues for the I-85 Widening project.

Lane shifts will occur along the corridor between Hamilton Mill Road (Exit 120) to SR 53 (Exit 129) in both directions as milling and asphalt paving activity occurs nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Drivers are advised to obey posted speed limits and traffic control measures inside the project limits.

The I-85 Widening corridor improvements will provide relief to motorists in this heavily congested area by widening I-85 from two to three lanes in both directions from I-985 to SR 53. Additional work on the project includes replacing three overpass bridges along I-85. The I-85 Widening project is the first of 11 initial Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP) projects to begin construction.

Additional information about the I-85 Widening project can be found at http://www.dot.ga.gov/BS/Projects/SpecialProjects/I85WideningI985SR53.
