Mr Garcia

What a week! So quick yet we fit so much in. This half term has been flying as well. Yesterday Y2 went on a trip to the fire station! How exciting! On Wednesday morning, Chelsea FC came in to talk about Black History and about a poem competition for 5 of the best poems in the school will be chosen to go to Stamford Bridge. Get writing! Also, yesterday Y6 had 18 visitors coming for maths!

Ashburnham Cookbook – we need your recipes!
There’s no cookbook without them!
Wouldn’t you like to see your child’s favourite recipe (and picture) in the Ashburnham Cookbook? Then fill in the recipe form (given out last week, and at the bottom of this newsletter), and hand it in to Miss Lindsay ASAP after we return from half term break. Why not cook your favourite family meal together one rainy day next week? Then write it up, draw a picture or take a photo, and bring it in when we get back. It can be as simple or as complicated as you like. How great would it be if we had a recipe page for every pupil?
From School Council:
On Wednesday 31st October, it's a spooky day. Remember to dress up and come to school in your Halloween costume. There will be prizes in KS1 for the best-dressed pupil and in KS2 the pupils who is wearing th scariest costume will awarded a prize.

Looking for activities this half term? Check out the timetable for the Holland Park Ecology Centre.
Recommended App
If you think your child might have some ‘tablet time’ over the half term period, then I highly recommend the apps produced by the Dragon Box team.  In particular, I would recommend Dragon Box numbers, for children in Year 1, Reception and below.   This app is quite incredible in its ability to help children develop number sense: proportionality, place value, part-part whole and simple addition and subtraction – all through the medium of play.  It is no wonder that it has won several prizes and awards.  Dragon Box also have several other apps suitable for primary aged children – including Dragon Box Big Numbers, which is a very playful approach to understanding formal column addition and subtraction.  For those of you with children in Year 5 or 6 or older, they also have incredible apps on algebra and geometry.  Last but not least, they’ve just produced an app to teach and explore the rules of chess.  It doesn’t disappoint. So, if your children are going to be on a screen over the half term, better that it’s spent playing something really good and educational!
