Global Gathering for Enhancing International Cooperation on Climate Change and Energy

INVIGORATING cooperation among cities is one effective way to stimulate a city’s development. Included in the definition of development are positive responses of cities on the issue of climate change. This idea is fully embraced by the European Union (EU) and so it provides it a platform, namely, the International Urban Cooperation (IUC) programme that stimulates city-to-city cooperation/pairing, putting cities facing similar challenges in touch with one another so they can learn from their partner’s approach.

Sustainable Eco-Tourism: From and For Community Development


ECOTOURISM once defined as responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people (TIES, 1990). The definition addresses sustainability on two main points: environmentally and economically. Embracing this spirit, Seberang Perai Municipal Council (SPMC) organised the 2nd Seberang Perai International Conference on Ecotourism and Conservation Effort (SPICEC 2018), taking the theme Promoting Local Economic Development through Ecotourism.

Rights Based Approach for SDGs Implementation


AMONG many global agenda that the world is now pursuing, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is prominent with commitment ‘No One Left Behind’. Envisioning better world, global leaders have united and international forums were organised to offer suitable approach for local (and national) governments. UCLG ASPAC, in collaboration with its partners introduced rights-based approach in the Human Rights Cities in the context to localise SDGs discussion in Gwangju, South Korea from 18 to 21 October 2018.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

 

Insights from the Eastern and Western Part of Indonesia

LOCALISE SDGs, collaboration of UCLG ASPAC and APEKSI, serves as a common ground to discuss innovation and share network related to SDGs implementation. In Indonesia context, SDGs implementation is regulated on the Presidential Decree No. 59/2017 on The Implementation of SDGs Achievement. The implementation at local level is also regulated on the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation No. 86/2017 and No. 7/2018 stipulating that SDGs indicators shall be integrated into local development plan (RPJMD).

DISASTER REDUCTION
 
Investing in DRR, Harvesting in Resiliency

AS one of the most disaster-prone countries in Asia, the Indonesian government through its National Board of Disaster Management (Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana/BNPB) has shown its commitment to continuously enhancing the country’s resiliency. The National government of Indonesia has translated its international commitment to the Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) into national policy.

FIRE MANAGEMENT

 

Fire Fighter Capacity Building, a Life Saving Training


FIRE, among many, is a man-made disaster that frequently occurs in Indonesia. Seeing this situation, UCLG ASPAC has held collaboration with Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) in organising a series of training to enhance capacity of fire personnels of cities in Indonesia. The recently concluded training event was held from 22 to 26 of October 2018 in Seoul.
