November is a busy month with many workshops, lectures and projects taking place as a result of the ECP Capability Development Funds. Several of these activities include the SCCAR Workshop: Frontier SI, a workshop and public lecture on bushfire management as well as details about the successful launch of the Centre for Information Discovery & Data Analytics (CIDDA), another ECP supported project.
Many researchers are currently preparing for their CDF funded events at the Engaging For Impact 2019. Registrations are now open. Be sure to register into your favourite programs and numbers are limited.
I've been speaking at several Discipline meetings to highlight the great work that is currently being done by the ECPs and focussing on the extent of the support that the Information & Systems (Engineering) ECP can provide to RMIT researchers. I'm reaching out to these groups in order to capture many researchers who have yet to register as affiliates and to make them aware of the benefits of this platform. RMIT Europe continually reaches out to us and is hosting a HORIZON Europe Workshop to provide information about the use of EU funds, a Workshop on how to achieve real-world impact from your research as well as the RMIT Redback Innovation Challenges, which gives our HDRs the opportunity to work with Telstra and the City For Melbourne.

Engaging for Impact 2019 will give all participants the perfect forum to share insights, global trends, industry needs and best practices to ensure research and innovation is relevant and creating value and impact for Australia and the world.
Launched on 1 July 2018, FrontierSI is the successor entity of the CRC for Spatial Information(CRCSI). The CRCSI will be familiar to many spatial researchers, having funded, conducted, and led an unparalleled research program in spatial in Australia over the past 14 years. RMIT was an Essential Partner in the CRCSI, and is again a core partner in FrontierSI.
This workshop will give you a chance to hear first-hand from the new FrontierSI team about their strategy and research program and from key FrontierSI industry and government stakeholders about their priorities and goals. The Workshop will be of interest to any RMIT researchers who are interested to find out how to collaborate through FrontierSI on applied research problems important to industry and government.

delivered a Challenge with The Comfort Group
- a group of companies including
SleepMaker, Australia’s largest mattress manufacturer - on the topic of rethinking the
future of sleep and rest for ageing Australians.
The RMIT Redback Innovation Challenge has
proven to be an excellent method of engaging
meaningfully with industry to co-create
solutions to their challenges, while enhancing
our students’ experience and equipping them
with vital innovation skills to prepare them for
the future of life and work. All HDRs who take
part in a Challenge will also receive an exclusive
invitation to a series of small-group workshops
facilitated by renowned external experts on:
Storytelling, Cultural Intelligence and Resilience,
as well as gift card prizes for their time and contribution.

Launch of the RMIT Centre for Information Discovery & Data Analytics (CIDDA)
The RMIT Centre for Information Discovery &
Data Analytics (CIDDA) was successfully
launched on Wednesday 17 October at the
RMIT City campus. Attended by over 120
industry and RMIT researchers and staff,
this event delivered high profile guest
speakers who engaged the audience
with cutting-edge information systems presentations, highlighting the significant
relevance and value that CIDDA will bring
to RMIT, industry and the local and global community.
CIDDA will use the latest research to help industry partners and organisations turn data into knowledge. Many organisations have a lot of data but do not have the skills required to transform this data into information they can understand and use. "Our goal is to partner with these organisations and help them transform that data into knowledge,” said CIDDA Director, A/Professor Shane Culpepper.
CIDDA staff are currently working on a project with Microsoft that will help build the next generation of voice software, by improving SEEK's online job search engine. CIDDA is also working with the City of Melbourne to improve sensor data for pedestrian and traffic management.
