Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” -- Anais Nin 💫

Good morning,

You will have certainly seen that on Monday Philip Hammond presented his Budget to Parliament. The main takeaway is that most people will pay less income tax from next April (April 6th is the start of the new fiscal year, to be precise) for 2 reasons:
  • Personal allowance will rise from £11,850 to £12,500 from April, meaning a higher proportion of income will be untaxed for most people (£155 a year in your pocket if you earn between £12,500 and £50,000, and an extra £566 if you earn between £50,000 and £100,000),
  • The higher rate tax threshold will rise from £46,350 to £50,000 from April, meaning higher rate taxpayers will be better off but at the same time these higher earners will have to pay higher national insurance.
For a full debrief on the Budget, you can read these great and detailed articles by MoneySavingExpert and Sarah Pennells.
