The Bureau of Communications and Arts Research (BCAR) has released new analysis showing cultural and creative activity contributed a whopping $111.7 billion to Australia’s economy in 2016-17. The paper found a 30% increase in the value of cultural and creative activity, from $86 billion in 2008-09 to $111.7 billion in 2016-17. This equates to 6.4% of Australia’s Gross Domestic Product in 2016-17! This is a huge development and highlights the value and capacity of arts and cultural activity as a driver of economic development in Australia. What an exciting time for the creative industries!
