Holiday Group Show November 2nd, 6pm - 8pm


November 2 marks the start of the holiday season at Gallery Calapooia! Please join us for our reception on Friday, Nov 2, 6pm - 8pm, as the festivities begin. Our members have created a new collection of fine original textiles, paintings, prints and jewelry, and a dazzling array of colorful hand-made ornaments and cards. We’ll feature the music of String Theory, a duo consisting of Kim Collar on guitar and violin, and Tom Hughes on guitar, mandolin, and banjo. Snacks, beer, wine and hot cider will be served.


Book Signing with
Melissa Babcock Saylor November 8th


Melissa Babcock Saylor will be signing her newly illustrated book, Also An Animal, written by Lynn Parish Sutton on, Thursday November 8, 2018 from 5:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. at Gallery Calapooia. There will be cider and cookies on hand as well as general merriment. The signing will happen the same evening as the Downtown Unwrapped event in Albany, OR

Join in the festivities on Thursday, November 8 until 8 pm as Gallery Calapooia and participating downtown Albany businesses reveal their holiday window displays! For this fun and friendly competition, Gallery Calapooia will unwrap a real treat - festive original window paintings by Melissa Saylor and Sue Ann Johanson! Customers will be able to vote on the best downtown window, and will enjoy hot cider and cookies while browsing our holiday selections.

Don't miss your last chance to catch Linda Herd at the 15th annual Philomath Open Studios Tour
October 27 and 28



Linda Herd is a guest artist in the studio of Lee Kitzman. Please stop by and see her this weekend with Beth Rietveld, a textile artist, is also in the studio. Come by and see her lovely baskets, Lee's stunning new pottery, and Linda's newest designs.

The 15th Annual Philomath Open Studios Tour, open two weekends, October 20, 21 and 27, 28. POST artists open their studios for free, self-guided tours from Noon to 5pm. Local wine tasting rooms also host pop up studios. This year's tour has 42 artists at 16 studios. There are 18 new artists on the Tour this year including seven students, four at the Philomath High School art room with their teacher, Emily Thomas, and three Albany High students at the studio of their teacher, Babette Grunwald.

The Tour brings the visitor “backstage” to meet the artist behind the work, ask questions and see the approach, tools and process for creating a work of art. A full spectrum of art mediums is shown; including ceramics, metal work, jewelry, fiber art, photography, glass work, and a variety of painting mediums. Distinctive yellow signs keep visitors on track through the route where the studios are located.

GC artist Karen Miller will exhibit
in Taos, New Mexico


Karen Miller’s katazome fiber art will be featured in a major display at Wabi-Sabi in Taos, New Mexico starting in Late October. This shop features high end Japanese imported and inspired goods.

Annual "Twice Around Town Parade"
in downtown Albany



The Downtown Twice Around Christmas Parade rolls through the streets of Historic Downtown Albany on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018. The parade starts promptly at 5 p.m. Rain or Shine. Entries typically include the Albany Trolley, Horse Drawn Wagon, community groups, schools, businesses and Santa riding on Albany’s Antique Fire Truck. The parade route starts at the corner of Broadalbin Street and First Avenue, heads West down First to Calapooia Street, heads South on Calapooia to Second Avenue, heads East on Second to Broadalbin, heads North on Broadalbin to First, and then around again ending up at Two Rivers Market parking lot at the corner of Second and Ferry. Immediately following the parade is the Community Tree Lighting Ceremony at Two Rivers Market parking lot, corner Ferry and Second, Downtown.

Howard O. Poppleton 1935 - 2018


Howard Poppleton , husband of founding member Sharon Poppleton, passed away in October. Howard was often at our functions and he was always there with help, good humor and encouragement. He was a friend to every gallery member, and we will all miss him.
