Fifth Grade
This week in Math, we are diving into Module 2 with multiplying multi-digit numbers using the area model and comparing that to the standard algorithm. For Miss Kempski’s class, students should be working on Module 1 corrections during tutorial.
This week in Social Studies, we are continuing to expand our knowledge about the Western Hemisphere. We will focus in on climate, vegetation, and population density.
In science we have been working on learning about our solar system. We ended the week with fun activities outside where we used solar energy to power a blender to make bean dip. We then were able to taste the amazing bean dip on some chard from the garden. Lots of fun!
Seventh Grade
We’ve made some changes for Google Classroom in math. I hope you received the email explaining the reasoning. Please read our plans for next week. If you read our weekly update you’ll see pictures of the kids working on projects! Next week look for pictures of our completed projects in Math 7 and Pre-Algebra.
We start Module 2 next week in Math 7 (Our unit on Signed Numbers) and in Pre-Algebra we’ll begin Module where we’ll learn a lot about percents.
Eighth Grade
Social Studies -- We will be ending the Civil Rights Movement unit soon with a research project focusing on current civil rights issues. This would be a great time to watch the news with your student and look for examples!
English: We are still reading Touching Spirit Bear, and there is a new reading schedule. Students need to read each night and complete the written assignment.
Got pencils? Research shows that students who come to class with pencils are more likely to start their work without delay. Please restock the pencil supply.
Music
Our Harmony Bridge training sessions and kick-off performance were a terrific success! The band students in grades 6-12 spent three days working with guest clinician and musical celebrity Michael Levine of the Dallas Brass. During our time together, the students learned many traditional folk and patriotic songs, developed their communication and skills, bonded with their fellow musicians across grade levels and had the opportunity to perform for and visit with many of the residents at Juniper Manor here in Tburg! The students will attest to the power of this program, so be sure to ask them about their experiences with Harmony Bridge! In the coming months and years, our band students will have additional opportunities to collaborate with students at the high school and perform for the residents of Juniper Manor and many other senior living communities in the area.
