28th October 2018

Dear Friend,

Welcome to our BPPC eNews.

The trend in many churches today is to make "activities" the major focus, and the church that doesn't have activities is considered uninteresting. But what should be the focus of a Church?

The obvious answer, of course, is the Lord. But then the Church is "the Body of Christ" isn't it? So, do you take care of your body? Well, Jesus does for His too and reminds us that "each member belongs to the others," (Rom 12:5) as well as to Him.

To answer our question then, "Member Care" should be the main focus of the church. Paul puts it this way, "Let everything be done for edification" (1 Cor 14:26), and "members should have the same care for one another." (1 Cor 12:25)

Take care of each other, and enjoy this week's bulletin and buy up the opportunities to encourage one another in the Lord.

God bless you abundantly,
Pr Andre & Newsroom Team

From the Pulpit

Morning Service - 9:30 am

This morning Pr André Schwartz will share on the theme “Living for a Sovereign God”  from Isaiah 36-39. How is your “stressometer” going at the moment: hitting 10 (blowing your brain) or 0 (cool as a cucumber)? Last week when Hezekiah hit 10 during a national crisis, he did exactly the right thing: he asked for a word from God, prayed that God would be glorified, and trusted Him alone. Now, what will he do in a "Personal Crisis," with the "stressometer" again hitting 10? He gets is so, so wrong, and when it drops to 0 he gets it really, really wrong! Come and learn how God wants us to handle stress through the actions of Hezekiah.

Evening Service - 6:00 pm

This evening our Ministry Assistant, Johann Vorster, will preach on the theme, “Rejoice in the Lord Always” from Philippians 4:1-23.  Again I will say, rejoice! What words from a man who knows not whether life or death awaits him. Yet, even so, Paul has a full measure of joy because he knows that he will endure to the very end, and that, when the end comes, he will be with his Lord at last. What a great mindset for troubled times. Come, hear more of these wonderful thoughts of the Apostle in Philippians 4.

  • Pam Frazer has been in hospital this week commencing treatment for a Lymphoma which was diagnosed last week. Keep Pam in your prayers, and others dealing with a similar issue.
  • Pray for our expectant mothers and those with newborn children. Another child (first or last) means huge changes in family life.
  • Remember the children of our members who are far from the Lord at the moment, that the Lord will work in their hearts and "bring them to themselves" like the prodigal son.

Last week we prayed for the Communication Skills that our missionaries Nathan & Tomoko Stewart, Lucinda Windeatt and Lauren Crase need to communicate the Gospel effectively. This week we are praying that they might have an Effective Ministry as the Lord works through them.

  • Teaching, preaching, witnessing;
  • Boldness, open doors;
  • Prepared hearts, fruitfulness.

Lucinda Windeatt's Operation

Lucinda had a repeat ear operation on Wednesday afternoon to restore her hearing, which was quite seriously impaired even though she didn't blow her trumpet about it. Please pray for a total recovery so that she might continue serving the Lord effectively.

Lauren Crase Update!

Like all health professions in Timor Leste, once you have graduated from university, there is no ongoing education or ‘upskilling’; what knowledge you learn at university is it for the duration of your career. Read more...
