Final 40th Anniversary Celebration Event!

  
The Foundation hosted a black tie gala at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Foundation. Since inception, the Foundation has provided over $700M in grants to support advancements in science! Homer H. Hickam, bestselling author of "Rocket Boys" (film: October Sky) and "Carrying Albert Home" and retired NASA astronaut trainer served as Guest Speaker. More pictures from the evening can be seen here.
 

Mark Bear, MIT, Receives 2018 Beckman-Argyros Award in Vision Research


The Foundation announced Dr. Mark Bear from MIT as the fifth winner of the Beckman-Argyros Award in Vision Research at the annual Beckman Symposium. Dr. Bear presented a keynote lecture on his pioneering work in understanding metaplasticity in neural networks as part of discovering novel treatments for amblyopia.


Matthew Brenner Named Interim Director of the Beckman Laser Institute

The University of California-Irvine has announced that Dr. Matthew Brenner will be the interim director of the Beckman Laser Institute while a national search for a permanent director begins this winter.

2016 Arnold O. Beckman Postdoc Noelle Stiles, PhD (USC/Caltech), published in PLoS One, created two illusions to reveal how the senses can influence each other in her study of the brain’s decision-making process.

2015 BSP Hayden Rudd, at Furman University, published in Tetrahedron Letters, demonstrated the first total synthesis process for hibiscone B, with future work directed towards synthesis of bombaxone and an understanding of the bioactivity of these natural products.
