The board, staff and volunteers of the Napa Farmers Market are very excited to be included as one of the fabulous 40+ nonprofits in this year's Napa Valley Give!Guide.

We are raising money in the Give!Guide for our CalFresh Market Match program. 100% of your donation will help double the amount of CalFresh dollars low-income households can use to buy nutritious, local produce at the Napa Farmers Market.

By making CalFresh ("food stamp") dollars go farther, the Market Match Program encourages low-income households to shop at the Napa Farmers Market and eat better at home.

What is CalFresh Market Match?
CalFresh, formerly “food stamps”, is the federally funded nutrition benefits program available to low-income households.

The Market Match Program doubles the amount of CalFresh dollars low-income households can spend at the Napa Farmers Market on nutritious produce.

The CalFresh Market Match program is a “buy one get two” deal!
 
At the Napa Farmers Market, CalFresh dollars can buy:
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Meats, poultry, fish and eggs
  • Dairy products
  • Breads and cereals
By making CalFresh dollars go farther, the Market Match Program encourages low-income households to shop at the Napa Farmers Market and eat better at home.

Why should I donate to CalFresh Market Match?
100% of your donation to the Market Match Program will help low-income household double their CalFresh dollars to purchase nutritious, fresh, local produce from the Napa Farmers Market.
 
79% of Market Match customers report that they eat more fruits and vegetables as a result of the program.
Robert and his wife, Diana, are regular Market Match shoppers at the Napa Farmers Market. They are the proud parents of three young children. 

When asked how Market Match helps his family, Robert said,
"Without Market Match, my family would not be able to shop at the Napa Farmers Market."

"Market Match makes fruits and vegetables about the same if not a better price than the grocery store.”
Is food insecurity really a problem in our community?
Overall, more than 8,000 families in Napa County experience food insecurity.  Food insecurity is defined as “being without reliable access to sufficient affordable, nutritious food.”

The 2018 Napa County Emergency Food System Study conducted a survey of 351 people that were either already using or eligible for but not currently using local emergency food services.
Their survey found that 73% of respondents were at risk of food insecurity. This means that about three out of four people in Napa County receiving or in need of food assistance are still at risk of going hungry.

When asked what would help them be able to eat what they want, the most common response was “more money”.

Napa Farmers Market is a California Certified Farmers Market and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community resource that draws hundreds of shoppers and visitors each market day. Vendors include many local fruit, vegetable and flower growers (some organic); fresh seafood and meat merchants; food purveyors offering coffee, baked goods, pupusas and other ready-to-eat fare; plus, artisanal pottery, jewelry and other hand-crafted wares. Educational kids’ activities, chef demos and nonprofit-organization booths add to the enriching, multicultural shopping experience at the market. The market also participates in the Market Match program, doubling the value of CalFresh benefits purchasing power for all eligible food products.
