Shared Power
“For she thought, ‘If I just touch His garments, I will get well.’  Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction. Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, ‘Who touched My garments?’” – Mark 5: 28-30

In every superhero story there is a source of power. It is called an ‘origin story’. How did they get their strength? What freak accident or alien incident or genetically-modified spider interrupted their previously normal lives to grant them supernatural abilities?

The same is true for us. We are superheroes in waiting. The transition from the old man to the new man (seen throughout Scripture) is our origin story.

Nothing short of an encounter, and subsequent relationship, with Jesus is the source of our power. Like Paul on the road to Damascus or the woman touching Jesus’ garment, the power of the kingdom of God enters our lives through the power of the King.

The power of the kingdom of God is a network of energy, shared with us through the Holy Spirit. When we choose the Spirit, we tap into the forces of goodness and truth, love and beauty, purpose and passion. We become a part of the Kingdom. However, any time we pervert it by following our own way, using the power of our old selves, it displaces and renders this mighty power of God useless. The flesh is our Kryptonite.

God's power makes itself known through us in different ways. It is a shared power. Many are touched by the King. As we make choices to accept, obey and follow the touch of power on our lives, we tap into and share the mightiest power in the universe, a power that seeks ultimate good.
