Cancelled Classes
We’ve recently had to cancel classes at short notice for circumstances outside our control. If your children attend Aspley State School, please make sure that you discuss your ‘what if swimming is cancelled’ plan with your children, so they know what your arrangements will be. Please be assured that we don’t make the decision to cancel classes lightly. It is also important that you ensure that your mobile phone number is kept up to date, as this is the best way for us to contact everyone quickly.
Absences
If you are aware that your child will be absent from swimming it is very important that you head to our absence notification page to be considered for a make-up lesson. If every family notifies us of absences (especially in advance) it allows us to offer those places to other students who may require a make-up, and hopefully that way there are enough places for those who need them. We’d also like to remind families that make-up lessons are not guaranteed and that priority is given to swimmers who miss lessons due to illness. Wherever possible, we do try to provide discretionary make-ups however if families choose other activities over their scheduled lessons, we can’t always accommodate. Please also understand that if you can’t accept the times offered, or if a make-up is offered and you don’t turn up to the class, the make-up lesson is forfeited.
Traffic & Parking
Just a reminder to follow the road rules and signage around the school. The drop-off zone near the hall on Horn Road is only a ‘2 minute standing zone’ until 4.00pm, so parents are reminded not to park and leave the car to walk swimmers to the pool. Please find an appropriate car park if you are not just ‘dropping off’ Brisbane City Council parking officers and Queensland Police have been monitoring the traffic in recent weeks.
Equipment
A friendly reminder that all squad swimmers must have their own equipment and must remember to bring it with them to the pool. We also recommend that all swimmers have a spare pair of goggles and cap in their bags in case of breakages. We recently purchased some new pull buoys and unfortunately a number of them are already missing. Please check your child’s equipment bag and return anything marked ‘Swim Solutions’ to the equipment cage.
