Fishcare Successful in $107,000 app development funding

Fishcare VIctoria has been successful in the RFL Large Grants for $107,000 to develop a Fishcare App. Recognising the way the community accesses information and consumes content with digital technology, this project will develop an innovative and interactive "Get Hooked on Fishing" app. The development of this app will allow anyone, anywhere to participate in the Fishcare Program with tutorials, tips and demonstrations on how to get involved in sustainable and responsible recreational fishing. It will also provide a valuable resources for those who have attended a Fishcare clinic and need support to continue to fish on their own. The app will be available to all novice anglers and can be utilised by school student-led curriculum based activities. The development of this app also directly supports the findings of a 2017 VR Fish survey into the top 40 priorities of recreational fishers in Victoria. The survey identified "Teaching children about how to fish and good fishing practices" and "improving education and knowledge of fishing rules and regulations" in the top 6 priorities in a list of 40. Stay tuned for more on this exciting project!!

Have you seen this weed?

Image result for salvinia

Salvinia is a Weed of National Significance. It is regarded as one of the worst weeds in Australia because of its invasiveness, potential for spread, and economic and environmental impacts. Salvinia is an aquatic weed that can choke waterways. It floats on still or slow-moving water and can grow rapidly to cover the entire water surface with a thick mat of vegetation. This shades out any submerged plant life and impedes oxygen exchange, making the water unsuitable for fish and other animals. Salvinia infestations reduce the natural beauty and biodiversity of wetlands  Read More
