43rd Anniversary of the James Bay Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA) 
On November 11, 2018, we will be celebrating 43 years since the signing of the landmark treaty. You can read the Grand Chief and Deputy Grand Chief's statement that will be featured in The Nation below.

Press Release - New Premier of Québec and Ungava Representative 
On October 1, Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) won the majority in the provincial elections with 74 candidates elected across the province. CAQ leader Mr. François Legault was elected as the new Premier of Quebec and Mr. Denis Lamothe was elected as the National Assembly representative for the riding of Ungava. We congratulate the newly elected Premier and Members of the National Assembly for their victory.

New Québec Minister Responsible for Indigenous Affairs 
On October 18, members of the new cabinet of the Coalition Avenir Québec government were revealed. Among the 13 women and 13 men to be sworn into cabinet, Ms. Sylvie D'Amours representing the Mirabel riding was named Minister Responsible for Indigenous Affairs. Grand Chief Dr. Abel Bosum and Cree-Quebec Relations Director Melissa Saganash attended the ceremony in which cabinet members were sworn in at the National Assembly.

Grand Chief Dr. Abel Bosum Investiture into the Order of Canada 
Dr. Bosum received this recognition as a result of his decades of service to the Cree people of Eeyou Istchee. His achievements over many years of service include his leadership that would eventually establish the community of Ouje-Bougoumou from a forgotten people living in Third World conditions after repeated instances of forced relocation to accommodate the interests of mining companies.

Cannabis Legalization in Eeyou Istchee
On October 17, 2018, recreational Cannabis was legalized by the Federal Government across Canada through the Cannabis Regulation Act. The Act allows for the production, distribution, and sale of recreational cannabis products throughout Canada and has been adopted within the Province of Québec. It is essential to understand the impact that this decision will have for all communities of Eeyou Istchee and to plan accordingly.

Report 
Eeyou Istchee Language Engagement Session
On March 13-15, 2018 over 100 people gathered in Ouje-Bougoumou to address a growing concern: the preservation of the Cree language for future generations of Crees. These sessions focused on a renewed effort to strengthen Cree engagement of youth and all Cree people of Eeyou Istchee.
