MEJO 584 Information Session
Come learn about this year's annual International Multimedia Project class (MEJO 584), sequel to Aftermath and Cuba's New Wave. This a semester-long course where we will spend spring break in Colombia to report on the influx of Venezuelan immigrants. 

The information session will be held on Tuesday, October 30th at 5:30pm in Carroll 128.

Information Session: Washington Internship Program - The Fund for American Studies
The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) is now accepting applications for its summer 2018 LIVE. LEARN. INTERN. academic internship programs based in Washington, DC. Generous scholarship funding is awarded to students based on financial need and merit.

Meet the Pros: Maggie Engellenner
Maggie Engellenner is a part of the Digital Strategy Team at the NBA, where she manages the NBA's relationships with its social and digital partners.

Maggie will be holding an information session on Friday, November 2, from 2-3pm in Carroll 143. Her session is a great opportunity for students interested in careers in sports media to hear from a professional in the field and get career advice!

Meet the Pros: Barry Saunders
Barry Saunders was a columnist for the News & Observer for 24 years, writing about local happenings and personalities around the Triangle. Barry has also written for the Richmond County Daily Journal, the Robeson Record, the Washington North Star and the Atlanta Constitution.

Barry will be holding office hours in Carroll 161 on Thursday, November 8, from 11:00am-1:00pm. This is a great opportunity for students interested in careers in reporting and local news to pick an experienced columnist's brain. Information Session - BrightHouse Consulting
Do you dream of doing creative work that has a real, positive impact on global society? Meet the Pros: Bridget Harrington
Bridget Harrington is the Executive Director of Innovate Raleigh, an organization working to drive Raleigh into the top five innovation hubs in the country. Bridget has 15 years of experience in marketing and entrepreneurship, including co-founding her own marketing firm, Syndicate Media Group. Bridget has worked in New York City, San Francisco and Raleigh. 

Bridget will be hosting an information session in Carroll 141 on Friday, November 16, from 1:00-2:00pm. Students interested in careers in marketing or entrepreneurship, or those interested in working in San Fransisco or New York City should attend!

Meet the Pros: Jessica Stringer
Jessica Stringer is a 2010 alum and the Executive Editor of Chapel Hill Magazine. Jessica also has experience as an editor, blogger and writer for Southern Living Magazine.

TODAY: Information Session for M.A./J.D. and Ph.D./J.D. Media Law Dual Degree Programs

Have you thought about what you want to do after you graduate with your undergraduate or master’s degree? Thinking about law school and a career in media law and policy? A strong background in law and mass communication can be a launching pad for a career in law, media, business, entertainment, government, public policy or academia.

The nationally renowned UNC School of Media and Journalism and School of Law have brought together these two dynamic fields to offer two exciting dual degree programs in media law and policy that allow students to earn simultaneous M.A./J.D. or Ph.D./J.D. degrees in less time than it would take to earn the individual degrees separately. 

Anyone interested in joining the active and vibrant media law community here at UNC is invited to attend the information session TODAY, 10/29, from 5-6pm in the Freedom Forum. Members of the program’s faculty and current dual degree students will be there to answer questions. Pizza will be served!

Videographer Opportunity
The Library at Mississippi State University seeks a student to conduct a brief video interview (10-20 minutes) with an author in the Chapel Hill area in advance of an upcoming event. Mississippi State will provide the questions and specs and will help schedule the interview.
 
The student needs to have access to appropriate video and sound recording equipment and must have demonstrated expertise in conducting video interviews. No editing is required. Footage must be supplied no later than November 9. Pay upon successful completion of the project is $150.

Diversity Program - POLITICO Journalism Institute / Washington, D.C.
POLITICO today announced it is accepting applications for its sixth session of the POLITICO Journalism Institute (PJI), an educational initiative focused on supporting diversity in Washington newsrooms.
 
The intensive 10-day program, which is designed for college students, will be held May 28 to June 7, 2019, with hands-on training for up to 12 university students or recent graduates interested in covering government and politics.

PJI students split their time between American University in Washington and POLITICO headquarters in Arlington, Va. Costs for PJI participants, including room, board and transportation, are covered by POLITICO. Applicants who are rising juniors or seniors at accredited four-year colleges or universities will be given preference. Student members of minority journalism associations are encouraged to apply.

Relevnt's RamChat Rollout
Relevnt™ is a new location-based mobile network that’s launching on college campuses nationwide. In a promo partnership with the Daily Tar Heel, Relevnt is introducing UNC Communities. It’s a fun and engaging, independent student-run mobile directory of communities where students connect into the real-time heartbeat of all things relevant to them at UNC. 

And anchoring this new directory will be RamChat, the flagship Community where students live chat, blog, podcast, and share experiences of what’s going on around campus and town. To lead the launch of RamChat, we are recruiting highly motivated content creators to join our editorial and broadcast team to cover a variety of fun and interesting topics and events. 

Come to the Relevnt rollout on Thursday Nov 1, noon at Student Union - Room 3206A. There will be free pizza and an opportunity to make some cash.
