PitchU ($6K Prize Pool)

Attend
PitchU and you'll learn the finer points of pitching, including presentation strategies and tactics backed by exhaustive research. You will also have opportunities to practice your pitch. The event is free to attend and lunch is included.



Blockland Solutions Hackathon

Event Date: Friday, November 9 - Sunday, November 11
Location: Cleveland State University


Industry professionals - as well as students in high school and college - are invited to participate in the inaugural Blockland Solutions HackathonParticipants will be challenged to come up with a prototype using blockchain technologies during the event.


Global Student Entrepreneurship Award

($20K Prize Pool)

The Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) is one of the premier global competitions for students who own and operate a business while attending college or university. The Cleveland EC GSEA competition is December 1 with prizes of $20,000 and advancement to the EO National and EO Global competitions, in Toronto.


Saint-Gobain Student Design Competition

(Win up to $10K)


Application Due Date: Wednesday, November 21
Location: CWRU


In the Saint-Gobain Student Design Competition, you’ll create a team of undergraduate and graduate students from any CWRU Engineering Departments, the Weatherhead School of Management Departments, the Physics and Chemistry Departments and the Cleveland Institute of Art to participate in this exciting student-led competition.



Global Entrepreneurship Week Cleveland:

Building A Blockchain Ecosystem

This year Cleveland is joining the Global Celebration to strengthen our start-up community. Cleveland's celebratory event is focused on discovering what "Cleveland Can Do For Blockchain."



Morgenthaler-Pavey Startup Competition 

(Win Up To $25K)

Designed to identify and support high-potential startups coming out of CWRU, the annual competition is currently seeking applications from ventures whose founding teams include at least one currently enrolled CWRU student or an alumnus who has graduated within the last five years.

 

Student Startup Madness

Student Startup Madness (SSM) is open to all college student digital media startups from any college/university in the United States. SSM takes place at SXSW.



Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards

Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas awards honor products, concepts, companies, policies, and designs that are pursuing innovation for the good of society and the planet. Student application fee is $40-$50. Scholarships are available - apply here.

CES

CWRU is entering our 6th year at CES.tech, the premier tradeshow for innovation and discovery. The tradeshow attracts 170,000 visitors and 4,200 booths. CWRU will have 12 booths.

EVENT RECAP


Startup Weekend

On October 12 – 14, CWRU LaunchNet hosted the TechStars Startup Weekend.

  1. First prize went to the SmartChange team, who created an app to filter out negative social media to promote happier behavior and lead to a happier life.
    Winners - Jacob Brookbank and Jim Song (CWRU)
     
  2. Second prize went to Mobility, a service to promote social good by providing bicycle transportation to people in underserved neighborhoods.
    Winners - Paul Suchy (KSU grad) and Justo Karell (CWRU)

     
  3. Third prize was awarded to Simply Apply, an online service designed to bridge the knowledge gap between international students and the American universities they hope to attend one day.
    Winner - Jahan Ghaznavi (PSU, CMU grad)

4th Annual Cleveland Medical Hackathon

22 teams presented and took on the challenge of the social determinants of health and how they relate to chronic disease management. The winning teams were:
