Top Actions:

Halloween's over ... but let's stick with the theme of inspiration and transformation: if the cute l'il neighbors can turn into, well, Transformers, how about WE get out there and turn some red seats blue? Don't want to wake up on November 7 and feel like you did on Nov. 9, 2016? If you haven't done any Get Out The Vote canvassing, phone or text banking yet, the time is NOW. And if you have, thank you — it's time to DO MORE!

Here are some easy, important ways you can fight the Trump regime.

  1. Canvass! Help us cover ground!
  2. Phone! Call it for the Dems!
  3. Text! Words matter!

Action #1: Go canvass. Do not pass Go. Do not gamble with our democracy.

Deadline: Sign up NOW to canvass THIS WEEKEND! - Time to break the Republican Monopoly in DC! Here's two great options for one last trip around the board on this last weekend before midterms:
  • Our Northern Nevada Indivisible friends have worked tirelessly to identify voters who'll vote to unseat Trumpbuddy Sen. Heller; it's time to seal the deal and we need you! Join lots of IEB'ers going to Reno this weekend, Nov 3-4. It's not too late, sign up here.
  • Help get voters to the polls to vote for TJ Cox and flip CA-21! A generous donor will cover shared hotel rooms in Delano for volunteers who canvass at least 2 days. A bus will leave MacArthur BART this Fri, Nov. 2, at 6 PM, returning Sunday (probably leaving Delano around 4 PM, arriving Oakland around 9 PM). Contributions welcome but not required. RSVP to jratner53@gmail.com

Action #2: Save Democracy with us on The Last Weekend

Deadline: Nov 3-4! - You have work kids cats commitments [your life here] — we get it — you can't get out of town to canvass. No problem! Here's another great way for you to be Indivisible with us this weekend, right here in the East Bay: our massive Get Out the Vote phone & text bank on The Last Weekend! Come together with friends at Oakland's beautiful Preservation Park, near 12th St BART, Sat & Sun, Nov. 3 & 4, 9 AM to 9 PM. Training & tech support, FOOD, and the best part: SAVING DEMOCRACY! Please join us. RSVP here NOW.

Action #3: Texting, the flexible GOTV tool

Deadline: today and every day until Nov 6 - Texting voters is effective and fast. Do it on your phone or laptop; do it during breaks at work, riding on BART, any spare moment; JUST DO IT! Read our article for basics and links to get started with IndivisiText and Resistance Labs. Do it on your own, with friends, or sign up to text with us this weekend at the Last Weekend GOTMFV

Countdown to Midterms

Don't buy that cute Xmas decoration, it's not even Thanksgiving yet! Besides, your money could help an election go blue, during these critical last days. IEB member Ion put together a unique guide to the closest races all over the country. And not just big ones you've heard of, like Congress and governors, but less publicized ones that can make a difference to voting rights — Secretaries of State and Attorneys General and ballot initiatives. Check it out, donate if you're so minded, and spread the word. The cost of that elf could make a difference to our democracy!

Our last nags: If you haven't already voted, VOTE! And check your registration.- we've heard of people being purged. Also, voting is not enough, now's the time to make sure others vote. Go to our Election Work page, and sign up! Commit NOW to help Get Out the Vote during the final days before Nov 6.

State and Local News

IEB’s midterms-costume-pizza-palooza!

Halloween arrived early at our All Members Meeting on October 28, with many showing up in costume to take selfies with infamous Trump Chicken. We were well fed and well informed: a generous member donated pizza, and the Executive Director of the California Alliance for Retired Americans discussed her group's recommendations on some of the dizzying array of statewide Propositions. Most critically, we urged everyone to sign up for the final push to help Get Out The Vote! For all the spooky details and photos, see our article.

The end of an era

On October 24, IEB had our last meeting with Senator Feinstein's state director Sean Elsbernd, who once called us “the most demanding Indivisible group in California,” and who's leaving for SF Mayor London Breed's staff. As always, we discussed a wide range of subjects, from immigration to judicial nominations to foreign policy, and from protecting social services to protecting LGBTQ people and sex workers. We look forward to meeting our new Senate liaison after the elections. Meanwhile, read our article with more details!

We Could Not Make This Up

Is it the media? Is it late-night comedians? Stop, ladies, you're both ... horrendous. Sarah H Sanders got all choked up talking about how 45 (his Jewish grandkids!) is gonna bring the country together — and without taking a breath got back to attacking the media (“they know who they are”) for the violence. Not to be outdone, Kellyanne Conway blamed the massacre at Tree of Life on ... wait for it ... “anti-religious” late-night comedians. Speaking of mis-placing blame, both sides are NOT responsible for the current political terrorism. The line from 45's hateful rhetoric to the pipe bombs, racist shootings, and synagogue massacre could not be more direct, and the torrent of tweets and GOP-enablers blaming Democrats and non-Fox media are mere attempts to deflect and steps toward authoritarianism.
