Please vote for two new members of the School Site Council (SSC), the body which collaborates to develop and implement Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy’s Academic Plan and budget. The term of office is 2018-2020. You may only submit ONE ballot per parent/guardian. Please return this printable ballot to your classroom teacher or the office or submit this online ballot by this Friday, November 9, 2018. Thank you!

Parent Ed-Night - Keeping Kids Safe

Thursday November 8, 6-7pm, Cafeteria
An organization called Safe and Sound is doing child abuse prevention lessons in every classroom November 26-29th. They are offering a parent workshop on November 8th at 6pm in the cafeteria. The workshop will give parents information on how to keep their child safe and how to help their child practice safety with the same language the kids will learn in the classroom lessons. Read more information here. Since it is for parents only childcare will be provided.

Thank You from the Garden Committee

Thank you so much to everyone who helped on our garden work day! We painted, planted, swept, cleaned and gave our little green spaces some TLC.
Randi (parent of a Kinder and 3rd grader) will be at school Monday afternoons from 2:15pm and Thursday mornings after morning circle to water and maintain our garden and planters. Please join Randi if you are interested in helping! Our garden is an ongoing experiment and a rewarding hands-on way to express to our students that we care about them. If you want to help a little or a lot, there is always something to do. If you have any question email Randi at garden@harveymilk.com.
Thanks again to our whole school community for helping our garden grow, and a very special thank you to Ms. Mallory for the work she does in the yard everyday.

A reminder that the book fair runs from Monday, November 26 - Friday, November 30 (which is also Parent/Teacher Conference Week, and school ends every day at 2:35pm)
Fifty percent of sales go directly to the school and classroom libraries.

Broadway Night Out - Come From Away
|

On 9/11, the world stopped. On 9/12, their stories moved us all. Come From Away, a new musical, takes you into the heart of the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships. Recommended for ages 10 and up, no children under 5 allowed. 100 minutes with no intermission.
