Nipper News

What a great turn out for the Nipper Proficiency Swim. And wow were we impressed with the organisation of the morning which was headed up by our new Junior Officer, Brad and wonderfully assisted by the Age Group Managers (and their assistants). So good to see everyone jumping in and getting organised.  Each Sunday there'll be a briefing at 8.45am so that we can start our activities at 9am sharp. Our finishing time is 10.30 and we ask all Nippers to help with washing down equipment and packing away.
Here's a few happy snaps from the recent Proficiency Swim.
(There'll be more pix on facebook each week)
You don't need to win to be a Winner

Six of our Clubbies recently went East to represent us at the Australian
Club of the Year Event

Club Pres - Jane Kelsbie said, "We didn't win the award (that went to Avalon SLSC in NSW) but it sure felt like we were winners as we got to represent and promote not only our Club, but our community and also WA to a panel of three judges (and to anyone else who'd listen). It was a pretty humbling (& flipping nerve wracking) experience to be sitting among folks from the best Clubs in Australia at the Art Gallery of NSW waiting to find out who'd won."

Feedback from the judges was that our Club is doing an amazing job and our training, coaching, engagement with Clubbies, community and other emergency service organisation is outstanding. Apparently it took the judges more than an hour to make the final decision and that we were "pipped by 1% on the day".

"I was stoked to be able to be part of this amazing experience and super proud to be part of such a fab Club, and as I said to the judges, we'll be back! " said Jane.
We sure will.
Our Weekend Away at Bremer Bay
24-25 November

Book now for the annual Rainbow Coast Development Weekend.  It really is a hoot ! Full of fun, friendship, competition and education with the emphasis on it being a social weekend with a bit of friendly rivalry with Albany and Esperance Surf Clubs.

Call the Bremer Bay Caravan Park - 9837 4018 to book your spot. They allocate a space for us but you need to ring and book a site within that area. (tell them you are from Denmark).

The Saturday night is a 60s theme in recongnition of our 60th anniversary. For more info contact George Mumford - our Vice Pres
on 0432 955 436. Click HERE for the flyer with all the info.

Please don't turn
your back on us.

This is a big shout out to last year's members that are yet to rejoin for this season. We really miss you and would love to see you back (and your front). It's not about numbers or dollars - it's about the fact that you hold knowledge and skills that you can share with our newbies (even if it's simply by looking like you know what you are doing ). We now have a Community Member category - drop by the office any Sunday morning to find out more.  All your forms are pre-filled for you - all we need is YOU.
Ahoy Skippers
Eight of our members took part in our recent Recreational Skippers Ticket course. And good on them for taking advantage of just one of the benefits of being a Club member as the course was fully funded by SLSWA.

Big thanks to Anne-Marie for coming to Denmark in her own time to conduct the course assessments and another big thanks to Helen and Martin Norwood for providing her with a place to stay. Charlie Thornton and Tim Sinclair also deserve praise for helping out with the extra practice and training for the assessment.

We reckon we now have a few more potential IRB Drivers and Crew :)
We need you to enjoy this View.
This really is best view in town and you could be lucky enough to enjoy it for a day. We really need more folks to put their names on the Kiosk Roster for January. Just ask anyone who has worked behind the counter before and they'll tell you just what great fun it is. You get to hang with great people, enjoy a free lunch all while keeping our beach goers fed and watered - plus making money for our Club.
The kiosk is open every Sunday and open 7 days a week during the school holidays.
See Jo in the kiosk this Sunday to put your name on the roster.
Who's who in our Zoo

Over the coming weeks we'll introduce some of the many people that help
our Club to run (and swim and definitely not sink).
Here's just two of the happy crew in our Zoo.
Radio Officer   Tim Sinclair

Day Job
 - Seafarer - I'm lucky to work on the Ocean
How many children? Three great kids who all love surf club.
How long have you been in Denmark? Since 1985
How long in Surf Club? About 10 years.
What do you love about it?  Just being at the Beach.
What's important about your role? The knowledge that I'm contributing something worthwhile to the community.
What are you famous for? Being a reptile nut and removing snakes from people's residences.

Treasurer    Vanessa Fyfe

Day Job Beach bum (retired paramedic)
How many children? I have two step kids that live in Perth.
How long have you been in Denmark? I've been here since 2013, but Paul (my gorgeous hubby) was born here. His mum Gwen was a midwife at the hospital and delivered some of our surf club members!
How long in Surf Club ?- I did my bronze in 2015.
What do you love about it ? It's inclusive and everyone is equal.
What's important about your role? I’ve been a patrol captain and first aid officer and I’m still a bronze trainer but the most challenging is my new role as treasurer.  Donna laughed when I said 'yes' to her offer to take it on and she has left big shoes to fill.
What are you famous for? On my first club swim, doing my bronze medallion, George noticed I was struggling to get out of the rip.  Martin had to rescue me in the IRB.

Did you know you need a Working With Children Check if planning to join your kids overnight when we bunk down at another Club in Perth for comps.  The time required is about 2 - 3 months for a WWC to be processed so it's better to do it now even if they change your mind later.  We can help you with all the paperwork so drop by the office on Sunday.
