Making a difference

What a year it's been! Our Annual General Meeting last Friday was a fitting occasion to showcase, share and celebrate what we have faced and achieved during the past year.
With 140 guests, we took a sweeping ride across the organisation and reflected on the efforts and achievements of our staff who make a difference every day in our clients' lives.
It is no exaggeration to say we were overwhelmed with the support and generosity of businesses and people this year. We are incredibly proud of our partners and supporters and how they help us. There are so many examples of big hearts and generous pockets.
Thank you to everyone who has played a part in our achievements this year. Whether it is in a small or large way, we are extremely grateful for your support.

A big heart

Our recent Annual General Meeting was all the richer thanks to the involvement of one of our valued partners, Hand Heart Pocket. We were honoured to have CEO Gary Mark as our guest speaker and help us present awards to our staff. Hand Heart Pocket is the charity of Freemasons Queensland, which donated $450,000 to help us purchase a custom-designed three-bedroom unit for people with a disability.

Yellow Bucket Appeal

We call them 'buckets of joy' because that is exactly what they are!
This year we hope to fill and deliver 300 of them as part of our 4th Yellow Bucket Appeal. It is our way to spreading the joy at Christmas to those who need it.
Stay tuned for all the details in next month's YB News.

Christmas cards

We're big fans of the personal touch. A hand written card or letter still says so much. That's why we like to give cards at Christmas. An e-card just won't do!
This year, we've produced a beautiful selection of 10 unique Christmas cards. Each card features a watercolour painting by one of our staff members and a Christmas message.
They are printed on high quality card stock and available from our boutique op shop Collectables at 2 Station St. Packs of 5 cards are just $12.
All proceeds from the sale of the cards are used to support our community work.

Rachel goes to school

We're visiting local schools and sharing our children's story book with them.
Rachel's Quest was written and illustrated by 16 young people and now we get to share their achievement with their school mates.
The book was launched during National Disability Action Week to help people recognise that everyone has something they can do.
For a copy of the book, visit Collectables at 2 Station Street.  They are free with any donation.

A good hike

Congratulations to our staff and families who participated in the Hike for Homeless in Toowoomba last weekend.
This is an important community event that raises money for people experiencing homelessness. Our team proudly wore their yellow shirts with our motto 'We Find the Joy'.
Well done.

Our Home Services have expanded

CEO's Comment

Penny Hamilton, Chief Executive

I really enjoy looking back over the past year and celebrating with our staff, clients, investors, partners and friends our many achievements.

When I see the collective efforts of the work we do, in one written document, I am very proud of the sheer volume of hours of service we deliver, the kilometres we drive, the many phone calls we receive, the people we help, the smiles we share and … the difference we make.
YellowBridge QLD is indeed privileged to be entrusted with the opportunity to work in partnership with our diverse client base, connecting their lives so they can enjoy a brighter future. We have also enjoyed the continued investment from both the Australian and Queensland governments and strong support from our growing partner base whose generosity knows no bounds when it comes to lending a helping hands to those in need.

2017-18 has been an exciting year. We have:

  • Experienced growth and success in all areas of the business and the demand for our services continues to increase.
  • Touched the lives of over 6,400 people, travelling 470,000 kms to deliver over 200,000 hours of service across our four service areas of disability support, home care, housing and youth services.
  • Secured new premises, the former Skate City building on Ruthven Street, to create a central operations hub for the coming years providing us a secure future as one team.
  • Been vocal in our sectors, always taking the approach to be part of the solution and always to improve the outcomes for our clients.
  • Achieved 100% delivery of all contractual requirements and maintained certification in five key standards including the International Standards for Management Systems.
There is no doubt that today we are a stronger, better and brighter organisation. We all know an organisation is only as good as the people who do the work and the staff at YellowBridge are second to none for dedication and commitment … they are a fantastic group of people. They spend their day ensuring people who need a helping hand, get one. They place our clients are at the heart of everything they do. I truly admire the way they stand up for justice and fairness; and  I especially love the way they find the Joy in all that they do. It is an immense privilege and pleasure to lead this organisation and I look forward to the coming year – whatever comes our way … I know we are all up for it.
