The BID releases guide to the Devonshire Quarter

Devonshire Quarter: The Heart of Independent Sheffield is a 32-page booklet which promotes the people and places that make the Devonshire Quarter renowned for its eclectic mix of businesses.

15,000 copies have been distributed across the city and beyond, to encourage people to visit the Devonshire Quarter and discover its delights for themselves.

Diane Jarvis, Sheffield BID Manager, said: “Devonshire Quarter: The Heart of Independent Sheffield is the latest in a series of publications produced by Sheffield BID to promote the city centre as a dynamic, diverse and vibrant place to live, work and do business.

“Our latest guide focuses on the hard-working people and popular businesses that make the Devonshire Quarter one of the most popular areas of the city for retail, hospitality and entertainment. Sheffield has a unique offer of smaller, independent businesses and for decades the Devonshire Quarter has helped them grow and thrive. We hope to see those businesses continue to thrive, and new ones to start, in the heart of independent Sheffield.”

Devonshire Quarter: The Heart of Independent Sheffield is being distributed to outlets across Sheffield City Region and is available to pick up at Unit 1, Surrey Street (next to the Winter Garden), alongside the BID’s other promotional materials showcasing the city centre.

£96,000 raised by Bangers and Cash for Roundabout

Car bonnet artworks from the Bangers and Cash art roadshow banger rally were auctioned at the Mercure Hotel in Sheffield on Saturday 20 October, bringing the project’s fundraising total to £96,000.

Almost £28,000 was raised during the event for Sheffield youth homeless charity Roundabout via the auction, ticket sales, donations and from fundraising on the night which was added to the total already raised by teams participating in the event.

More than 180 people attended the event at the Mercure Hotel in Sheffield city centre, which was sponsored by Sheffield BID and hosted by BBC Radio Sheffield presenter and Roundabout patron Paulette Edwards.

Suzy Brain England OBE, Chair of Sheffield BID’s board, said: “Sheffield BID is pleased to support the Bangers and Cash auction and celebrate the hard work of the artists, rally teams and Roundabout staff.

“The BID fully supports the great work Roundabout does with young people in Sheffield city centre. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of the money raised in helping to reduce the number of young people sleeping rough on our city centre streets. With extra workers on the street helping young rough sleepers, we can also help create a brighter future for the city’s most vulnerable.”

Teams of local businesses participating in the rally left Sheffield on Friday 21 September in cars decorated by local artists, visiting Brussels, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, Switzerland and Italy, before driving over the finish line in Monte Carlo’s famous Casino Square on Monday 24, where Roundabout staff waved them in with a chequered flag.

Get involved in the BID’s magical Christmas

As we reach the festive season, the BID is planning lots of Christmas magic for Sheffield city centre. Whilst we can’t reveal our plans just yet, we can tell you that we are planning two festive experiences for all the family this Christmas.

We hope to bring lots of little ones and their parents into the city centre, and hope that our levy payers will help us increase dwell time and spend in the city centre by offering deals and special offers to visitors.

During the Sheffield Bricktropolis, a number of restaurants let kids eat free, or enjoy a free dessert. If you’d be interested in running something similar to capitalise on the extra families visiting the city during the festive season, please contact molly.mcgreevy@sheffieldbid.com.
