Mushrooms feed the immune system
Mushrooms feed the immune system
My favourite mushroom is the shiitake.  These chunky specimens are high in protein and rich in vitamins and minerals. They're great in stir-fries and make a chunky soup. Fresh ones are in the shops now for an autumn treat. Use dried shiitake when fresh aren't available.
2008-2018: Ten years of Metabolic Balance® in the UK
It was a cold winter's day ten years ago when a small group of nutritional therapists gathered in London to be trained by Dr Wolf Funfack, the founder of  Metabolic Balance®.  We were the first coaches to qualify in the UK. Now thousands of people are reaping the benefits of  this healthy eating plan for life. A new client summed up Metabolic Balance® beautifully when she said,

"It's my prescription for good health"

Eat Your Way to a Healthy Immune System

We're all more vulnerable to coughs, colds and infections during the winter months. If you're prone to winter bugs, now's a good time to prepare your immune system to repel invaders.  Spring may seem a long way off but support for your immune system now will help your body to strengthen its defence against allergies, such as hay fever.  Make sure you are eating some of these foods every day. It's food as medicine!
  • It's definitely time for a curry! Ginger and  turmeric add depth to recipes, while exerting a natural anti-inflammatory effect to support the immune system. You'll find warming chick pea curry  and chicken curry recipes on my Nutri Natters blog
  • A heart-warming home made soup provides the perfect comfort food for cold days. You'll love this inexpensive lentil soup even more when you know that several of the ingredients- garlic, ginger, turmeric and lentils provide fuel for the immune system to keep the bugs at bay
  • An easy win is to add more herbs to your cooking- throw in some rosemary, coriander or parsley to add colour, extra flavour and cell-protective antioxidants. Fresh, dried or frozen herbs all taste good and boost the nutrient content of dishes
  • In fact, all of the recipes on my Nutri Natters blog have anti-inflammatory properties. Scroll through and see what you like.  I'm looking forward to warming casseroles with loads of veg, including slow-cooked venison casserole.
