Groups

After what is arguably the most intensive part of the year we still have plenty of groups to go taking us through until mid-December, but October sees us settle back into regular school group bookings plus weekend visits from youth & church family groups.

This term is popular with many schools. A class can come away together at the start of the academic year and enjoy all the character development, the increase in personal organisation and growth in confidence that the children acquire, leaving the rest of the year to build on these achievements that have been gained.

We’ve enjoyed three different schools visiting us so far and this week sees families here on our half-term Autumn Adventure holiday.

One weekend booking at the start of the month was a family re-union weekend for the Cook family. Every other year we meet, eat a lot, look at old photos, reminisce and – I nearly forgot – do lots of activities together as well. It was a great time and after Susie’s side of the family have had their turn next year, we’ll be ready to meet up once again. Other weekend groups have included a group of families from Bolton and a large youth group from Preston, Lancashire.

Staff Team

We are pleased to inform you of two new recruits to the illustrious Min y Don Team; Clara & Hannah.

Clara Steinberg from Germany first visited here with a family group in May and whilst here on that visit made some enquiries about applying to join the Team as a Trainee. One application and interview later and here she is, settling in well and embracing all the new opportunities that are before her.

Hannah Hilson is a rare find! She was an applicant with qualifications already, who has joined us as a full time, residential Instructor. We are delighted that Clara & Hannah are with us as we move into the autumn, with its combination of group work and plenty of Staff training too.

Youth Work

In tandem with Tywyn Baptist Church, the autumn term sees us settle back into some sort of routine with the work with local children & young people. Regular followers will know of the revised format for our groups and the ‘rebrand’ for the younger youth group. October has seen us add on, as planned the session we call ‘Extra Time’ where those who wish to dig a little deeper into what they heard on the Friday can explore it more fully on a Sunday evening as well.

The Ultimate Adventure

Ahoy me’hearties!
That will mean something to our brave adventurers from this year’s Ultimate Adventure and now they need to look out for some top-secret information which will be heading your way! Yes, your secret password that will enable you to see – before anyone else – the video of this year’s Ultimate Adventure is in the post with information encouraging to you book early for next year – come on, you know you want to.

Those who were for whatever reason unable to attend this year’s pirate themed Ultimate Adventure can see all the fun we had when the video is released to the big wide world in a couple of weeks. So keep an eye on our website and facebook page for when that will be.

CCI – Europe & Beyond

For many years we’ve been privileged to be part of a worldwide network of Christian Centres, and more recently Susie has been right at the heart of it all by being part of not only the UK Council, but also the European Committee too.

Earlier this month, she and our good friend Robin Morris headed off to Alsace in France for a week’s conference where the work of CCI across many different countries was communicated, encouraged, resourced and prayed for. It is truly fantastic to hear of the incredible work that is going on in so many places, reaching out through residential ministry to so many young people across the globe.

At Min y Don we count it as a true blessing to have our eyes opened to the wider work and we are continually inspired to hear of the way in which various Centres, many of whom face much opposition, persevere and stick determinedly to the vision they have been given.

In Other News

  • We can’t keep him away – and neither do we want to…Bongo Clive was back! A Rhythm Shack event at church was held to give a great afternoon to loads of local families. Great to have Bongo stay with us again, and this time he brought only the one fridge.
  • Rachel’s lemon cakes, made to wish Bethany a happy birthday gave a good sugar rush to any who were lucky enough to partake.
  • Phil continued his medical training, but his was no ordinary first aid course. Our Administrator and trained mountain medic returned from the Alps and is almost ready now to start delivering courses himself.

Thanks again for reading – and supporting. We look forward to being back in touch again next month with another exciting episode of Min y Don News.
