• The gigantic Easton (Md.) Waterfowl Festival will have scores of events, demonstrations, exhibits, parties, and more during the weekend of Nov. 9-11. Details.
• In Chincoteague, Va., the Holly Day Market & Wildlife Art show on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 24) will have more than more than 80 vendors in two buildings. Details.

Yes, the list includes Winterfest of Lights in Ocean City, Md. and Winter Wonderfest at Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, Del. A pair of crab basket tree lightings (pictured) in the mix, too!

nace's big day

The celebration of Nace’s Day in Trappe, Md. is one of the oldest civic traditions on Delmarva—the 151st edition of the event will be Sat., Nov. 3. Parade, music, vendors, more. Details.

TREASURE HUNTS: Arts, crafts, antiques, etc.

• The Rehoboth Art League’s 34th annual Holiday Fair & Fine Craft Show will be Nov. 3-4 on the League’s 3.5-acre campus in Rehoboth Beach, Del. Details.
• The 55th annual Delaware Antiques Show is the weekend of Nov. 9-11 on the riverfront in Wilmington, Del. Details.
• The Oxford (Md.) Antiques Show at the town’s firehouse on Nov. 10-11 is in its 51st year. Details. (Right nearby, at the Community Center, is an expansive Model Boat Show on Sat., Nov. 10. Details.)
• On Sat., Nov. 17 the Harvest Thyme Craft Fair in Parsonburg, Md. will feature more than 100 vendor tables with works by regional artists and craftspeople. Details.
• Layton’s Chance Winery in the countryside near Vienna, Md. will hold its popular Old-Fashioned Christmas Market on Sun., Nov. 18. Details.
• You can take the Open Studio and Vineyard Tour on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on the post-Thanksgiving weekend of Nov. 23-24. There are 15 stops, where you can check out the work of fortysome artists. Details.
• On that same weekend, Nov. 23-24, you can check out the 15 or so artists featured on the Southeastern Delaware Artist Studio Tour. Details.
• The Chestertown Antiques Show is celebrating its 55th birthday on the weekend of Nov. 23-25. In addition to vendors exhibiting at Washington College, an appraiser will be on hand to guesstimate the value of your old treasure(s) for $5 each. Details.
• The Country Crafts Guild will present its Fall Arts & Crafts Show at the Rock Hall (Md.) Fire House on the weekend of Nov. 23-24. Details.
• The Caroline County Artisans Studio Tour is  Nov. 23-24, too. Locations in Denton, Ridgely, Preston, and Federalsburg, Md. Details.

The 18th Century Market Fair in Dover, Del. on Sat., Nov. 3 features an array of interesting characters from the 1700s, including woodworkers, equilibrists, horners, blacksmiths, conjurers, charlatans, shepherds, soldiers, seamstresses, and soapmakers. Details.

There will be dancing, drumming, and story-telling, at the Native American Day party Sat., Nov. 3 at the Nanticoke Indian Museum in Millsboro, Del. Details.

Rahim AlHaj will be playing the oud, a lute-like Arabic instrument, with a septet behind him Thurs., Nov. 8 at Washington College in Chestertown, Md. Details.

At the Celtic Christmas show at the Milton (Del.) Theatre on Sat., Nov. 24, the Fellow Travelers will be mixing and matching instruments: bouzoukis, mandolins, tin whistles, bagpipes, didgeridoos, bodhrans, banjos, hammered dulcimers, Scottish small pipes, 22-string Irish harps, and accordions among them. • Learn how to make decorative lights from expert woodworkers in a two-day session on the weekend of Nov. 10-11 at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md. Details.
• Make your own candy in a session on Wed., Nov. 14 at Bellevue State Park in Wilmington, Del. Details.
• Learn to make your own bayberry candles in a session on Sat., Nov. 17 at the John Dickinson Plantation outside of Dover, Del. Details.
• Try a Native American craft project on Sat. Nov. 17 at the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art in Salisbury, Md. Details.

• You still have a chance to enjoy an outdoor block party—the Belgian Beer Festival will be held in downtown Cambridge on Sat., Nov. 10. Details.

• Dogfish Head is having its 8th annual Analog-A-Go-Go party on the weekend of Nov. 16-17 in Milton, Del. There will be lots of vinyl music, craft vendors, live bands, cask beers, and craft cocktails. Details.

A NATIVE SON

David Blight, the author of a big new biography of famed orator, writer, abolitionist, and Talbot County native Frederick Douglass, will be speaking at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md. on Sat., Nov. 10. It's free, but reservations are required. Details.

Through Dec. 19, the Nabb Center for Delmarva History & Culture has an exhibit on campus at Salisbury (Md.) University that involves a display of childhood toys from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s that were stored in an attic in Mardela Springs, Md. back in 1965 and only just recently unpacked. Details.

mills to remember

Salisbury University geographer Michael Folkoff will be sharing the results of his multi-year research into local dams and mill ponds on Wed., Nov. 14 in an event on campus in Salisbury, Md. Details.

mill up & Running

Abbott’s Mill, which dates to 1795, will be up and running on Sat., Nov. 17. A mechanic will be on hand to explain what’s going on. The mill is located on a beautiful spot in the countryside near Milford, Del. Details.
