Dear Humanities Behind Bars members and supporters,
As we face daily reminders of the urgency of building networks of mutual aid to fight the constitutive violence of federal administrative and carceral regimes, we are excited to share some concrete ways to get involved with Humanities Behind Bars! Here are three upcoming events:
1) Please come through our next letter-writing session. We are meeting this Thursday, October 25th from 7-9pm at the Muse Writers Center. You can continue correspondence or get set up with a pen-pal in our network! Please RSVP to our Facebook event here and invite your friends. The carceral state attempts to sever connections, so come build with us!
We will also be soliciting submissions for a social justice-oriented zine of critical and creative work curated by graduate students in Dr. Reed's Abolition Literature course. The more, the merrier! Light refreshments will be served. #AbolitionWriteNow
2) We are hosting a Teaching & Advocacy Team Meeting that we want to open to everyone interested in getting involved with Humanities Behind Bars! It will be held on Friday, November 2nd from 6-8pm at the new downtown location of Café Stella on 116 Granby St, Norfolk, VA 23510.
3) We are also hosting letter-writing hours at ODU this semester, facilitated by HBB Student Justice Coordinator and ODU Student Club President Danielle Goldstein. Please come out on Thursday, November 8th from 7:10-9pm in Batten Arts & Letters 9002 at Old Dominion University. She is also planning an info meeting and "critical conversations" series, so stay tuned!
