Today is my birthday, and I am grateful
Firstly, you're beautiful. Let that fact sink in for a second...

Today is my birthday, and I am filled with gratitude. Little baby me could never have imagined...

To keep things short, I'll summarize the email:
  1. "Nineteen" releases today
  2. Performing at Debi Kar's "Hussie" in NYC
  3. "Pa' Respirar / Woh Lamhe Woh Baatein" available everywhere
  4. Uliya's leaving NYC/Instagram break/more
As always, I'd love your support. Forward this email, repost my music on social media, share the music via text message, or just listen to it. Whatever moves you, soothes you, inspires you...that's what I'm about.

I've added a few names to this list from my past life. Hopefully you recognize me by my photo if you don't recognize my name. And no feelings hurt...no questions asked, you can unsubscribe here

Nineteen
Coverart by Uliya. Photo by Abhas M.

Nineteen is out today on my birthday, 10/25, and available on all streaming/downloading services. It debuts my mixing skills, and features my vocals/songwriting/music production. The song was graciously mastered by Bob M, with feedback/support of many friends/co-creators. It is a rework of the vocals from a track I released in 2016 as part of my Life Is Grand EP. This version is a cinematic electronic ballad, inflected with the sounds of South Asia.

This release marks the 10 year anniversary of an event that changed my life on my 19th birthday, but most importantly, a turning of the tide for this water baby. I’ve always been in love, since the day I was born, probably before. I’m reclaiming that feeling of being in love with everything, and reclaiming the sacredness of my body, mind, soul, and heart. I guess I could say that 29 is a bigger deal for me than 30 will be.

In Nineteen, I ruminate about love, loss, healing, and strength. It centers a positive love experience in the present that helps to heal wounds formed from a negative/traumatic one in the past. As with all my music, my hope for Nineteen is that it can transport listeners to deeper states of reflection, healing, and loving, and help to inspire new futures.

Performing at Debi Kar's "Hussie" in NYC
Get your tickets! I have the honor of performing an arrangement of “Nineteen” and "Breathe Me in" at my dear friend Debi’s solo show. More from Debi, pictured: “Debayani Kar works with collaborators to explore a queer and cis South Asian femme's journey to self-love through sex positivity. Ripped from the headlines of her life, the play shares a bold, funny and unique perspective on what sex positivity means for a queer woman of color.
*50% of show proceeds go toward Black Sex Workers Collective & Black and Pink to support queer/trans/POC collective liberation.
*Parkside Lounge has a two-drink minimum (both alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages).”
Pa' Respirar / Woh Lamhe Woh Baatein
Cover art by me, Uliya!
A raw//quivering//DIY mashup of song by Bomba Estereo and Atif Aslam in both Urdu and Spanish. All vocals and background vocal loops were recorded on my phone.
Leaving NYC/Instagram break/more
I know. I know. I know. What?!?! But it's true. I'll be leaving NYC on December 15th, 2018 to spend some time in Houston with my mom, stepdad, and Houston friends to regroup, refocus, renergize...etc.

I'm not having a "going away" because it doesn't feel like I'm ending my time here in NYC, my home for so many reasons, most of them people. So, if you're NYC-based, let's try our best to connect before I leave, or I'll definitely see you on one of my visits home (to NYC).

Additionally, I'm going to be taking some time away from Instagram, initially deactivating and then just checking less. It's a great way for me to keep in touch with you all and express myself so I won't delete altogether (this isn't another Facebook moment don't worry [ie, I don't have a facebook]) but if you need to get in touch with me more consistently, email me here or reach out via phone. Xoxo.
