ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS
The District and NVEA
    have finished negotiations . . .
and reached a Collective Bargaining Agreement.  It was ratified by the teachers last Thursday and by the School Board on Monday night.   It brings the beginning teacher wage on a new salary schedule to $43,098 and the top wage to $84,742.  Congratulations on the agreement and a big THANK YOU to all the negotiators for their many hours of hard work.

YV-Tech and Regular Busing During Conference Week
      YV-Tech Schedule: 
Conference Week is coming to NVHS on Oct. 29-Nov. 2nd. Students who are enrolled in the AM session of YV-Tech will still be able to ride the bus as usual. Students who are enrolled in the PM session of YV-Tech will need to find their own ride to and from YV-Tech. All students are responsible for getting and completing any work they may miss due to the conference week schedule.
 

Regular Bus Schedule for Conference Week:
High School: Buses arrive at 11:20 am and
depart at 11:32 am.

Middle School: Buses arrive at 11:37 am and depart at 11:44 am.

Elementary School: Buses arrive at 11:50 am - 11: 52 am and depart at 11:57 am - 12:00 pm

Buses will be arriving approx. 3:20 minutes earlier to their afternoon bus stops.

      The search process to find a replacement for Mr. Duane Lyons is beginning. The School Board would like your input. A series of focus groups were held on Oct. 10th to help identify the strengths and challenges in the Naches Valley School District as well as identifying the qualities and qualifications of the next superintendent. If you were unable to attend the focus group meetings but would like to give your input.

NVHS Scores a 1st Place
at the Harvest Band FestivalFestival
Last Saturday, the Naches Valley Ranger Band competed at the Harvest Marching Band Festival.  This was held at Eisenhower High School football field.  The Rangers came out on top with a first place finish.  They had a score of 63.05.  Second place was Cle Elum/Roslyn High School in the 'A' division.  The Ranger Band also won the Best Marching, Best General Effect, and Best Auxiliary Awards.  Congratulations on their awards.  This Saturday, the Ranger Band will be traveling to Everett, Washington to compete in the Puget Sound Marching Band competition.  They will be performing at 11:30 at the Everett Memorial Stadium.  All are welcome to attend.

Autumn Evening of Music
The Naches Valley High School and Middle School Choirs  will be hosting an "Autumn Evening of Music" on Nov. 7th at NVMS.  All are welcome to attend.
 
Pacific Science Center
Big Hit at NVEA
    During the month of October, the  Pacific Science Center presented a two day program entitled "Space Odessy" at NVES.  Sponsored by the PTSA, students, staff, and volunteers were able to learn more about the universe around them. The program took children on a celestial journey where they explored the universe with a fun assembly and hands-on workshops.  You can see the enjoyment in the expressions on their faces.
     Could You Be a Foster Parent?
     There is a great need in the Yakima Valley for Foster Parents! Could that person be someone you know?  What is Foster Care?  It is a temporary living situation for children and youth who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, abandonment, or the death of their caregivers.  Of course, a primary goal is to return children to a safe home.  In today's world what there are children without home, you might be the person to make a difference.  If you are interested, please click on the following link to find out more information.  https://www.yakimafostercare.com/

     The PTSA is pleased to announce that once again they will be hosting "The Reflections Program." Reflections is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition. The reflections theme will be "Heroes around Me". The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works.
The six art areas are:  Visual Arts, Photography, Literature, Music Composition, Dance Choreography, and Film Production.
      An informational flyer and form will be sent home. Students will be asked to submit their area of interest. Once this form is returned we will send a packet containing information for their specific interest. For more info please email our Reflections Chair, Veronica  veromares7@gmail.com

Also, an outstanding communication tool used by Middle School Athletics is an app called TeamApp. Please download this to your smartphone, search for NVMS Athletics and follow the directions on the attached sheet (see below). This will have practice schedules, game schedules and locations and serve as a quick, easy way to communicate to the coaches. WHEN SIGNING UP FOR A SPORT THRU TEAM APP, PLEASE INDICATE WHICH SPORT YOU ARE WANTING ACCESS. THIS IS ONLY A PARENT APP. ATHLETES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ACCESS TO THIS APP AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.  
 
 
When picking athletes up from practices and/or games, please use the main Middle School parking lot. Access to the bus garage area will be restricted. Keeping in mind the air quality, we do have an Air Quality Action Plan that we will follow and we will update you with that information soon.

K-4 Spanish Enrichment Instructor *
 This individual(s) will:
- Develop a curriculum K-4 Spanish
- Teach conversational beginning Spanish
1 hour/Thursday only
Fluent in Spanish required
State Certified in Spanish translation preferred 
Contract: $TBD

Juniors, if you're interested in reserving a parking space for this school year, they are now available for $10.  You will need to have your vehicle registered with the office before you can purchase a parking space.  Spots will be on sale during lunch time.  If a parking space has a golden painted circle in it, it means it has been reserved so don't park there.  Sophomores, spots will be available next week. There is NO OBLIGATION TO PURCHASE A SPOT.
