The holiday season and one of my favorite times of the year is upon us.  It is one of my favorite times for several reasons however I think family get-togethers must be at the top of my list.  Thanksgiving dinners with family kick start the holidays for me.  Together, my maternal and paternal grandparents had eighteen children and you can only imagine how may cousins that generated, so family get-togethers during the holidays equated to family reunions.  Today those family get-togethers are much smaller but still hold great memories, and an excellent time to focus on things that we can be thankful for. Not only family but a country where our freedom is guaranteed including the right to assemble, freedom to worship, travel, the right to vote and many others that we take for granted in this wonder country.
During this holiday season lets all focus and enjoy the freedoms that our forefathers sacrificed for and fought to uphold for all Americans.
Going Ons in and around Eagle you should know:
  • The Eagle City Police Department has a drop off box at the police station, available during office hours, where anyone can drop off unused or unneeded prescription drugs. Let’s keep those opioids off the street.
  • The City in conjunction with Republic Services has placed a large dumpster in the parking lot next to the glass recycling dumpster for leaf drop offs.  Bulk or leave in paper bags are acceptable.  Please NO plastic bags.
  • In addition to the leaf dumpster we will soon have a dumpster for depositing plastic water bottles that are prohibited in blue recycle bins.
  • Eagle’s Country Christmas if just around the corner on December 8.
  • The Boise Veteran’s Day Parade is November 3.
  • The City’s Parks, Pathways and Recreation Department is sponsoring a Veterans Breakfast on Friday November 9 at the Eagle Senior Center.  The event is free to Veterans with a small charge for others.
Take the time to thank men and women who have served our country.

Stan Ridgeway, Mayor

Unlimited curbside leaf recycling starts November 5th for Eagle residents on your regular trash pickup day.
  • A drop station for residential leaf recycling is also located next to the glass recycling station (Library parking lot). This drop station will be available through December 10.
  • Other places for free unlimited leaf drop off:
    • Republic Services Transfer Station (Linder and Franklin, Meridian)
    • Ada County Landfill
Vibrant Traffic Box Art Around Eagle
Have you seen the newest traffic box art in Eagle? The City Council presented Certificate of     Achievements in the Arts to four local students. Serena Allen, Bailey Marti, Olivia Simontacchi, and Kessa Woolsey were selected out of 27 artists through a Call for Artists for K—12 students to design Traffic Box Art. The opportunity was sponsored by the Eagle Arts Commission. The theme was “What do you like best about Eagle?”
The City now has a total of nine traffic box wraps. For visual and performing art opportunities, please   contact the Eagle Arts Commission at 208-939-6813 or email  ArtsCommission@cityofeagle.org.

Energy Bag (orange bag) Program

This program is accessible to Eagle residents thanks to the City of Boise. The concept is to take the now unrecyclable plastics and convert them into fuel for the agricultural industry.
A one-year supply of orange bags is now available at City Hall for Eagle residents to purchase.
On your regularly scheduled recycle day, the orange bag can be securely tied and placed in the blue bin. The bags will be transported, sorted from the rest of the recycled materials, and sent to the fuel conversion center.

Ever had a library late fine?  Did you ever worry that your late fine would become a part of your permanent record? That the library late fine would ruin your credit score or scuttle an opportunity for a fabulous job?  Well, worry no more!  Late fines are a thing of the past at your Eagle Public Library.  Items owned by the Eagle Public Library will no longer accrue fines if returned late (however, items owned by other local public libraries will accrue fines if returned late).  This doesn’t mean that items never have to be returned; if kept too long past the final due date, the items are assumed to be lost and lost item invoices are sent to the borrower.
As the holidays approach, your Eagle Public Library is getting ready for some of its most popular classes and events. For elementary school age children, All About … the World of Autumn is explored on Tuesdays afternoon at 4:30.  Leaves (November 6), the Mayflower (November 13), Turkeys (November 20), and Santa and his Reindeer (November 27) are the featured topics.
Also for elementary school age children, Thursday’s Creation Station (at 4:30 pm) brings out the creative side of children with classes about Sharpie Dot Art (November 1), Stick Harmonicas (November 8), Deconstructed Appliances (November 15), Code Bracelets (November 29), and Igloos (December 6).  On Saturdays, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) takes over the Library with Edible Aquafiers (November 3), Turkey Dinner Science (November 10), Countdown to Santa Calendar (November 17), Fall Printmaking (November 21), and the mega-popular Gingerbread Engineering (December 1).  And, for the exciting days of no school, there’s an Ornament Extravaganza (Monday, November 19), Holiday Melties (Tuesday, November 21), and Star Wars Snowflakes (Wednesday, November 21).
Teens are invited to get in the holiday spirit as well with Lightbulb Doodles (November 6), Maple Leaf and Mason Jar Candle Art (November 13), Chin Puppets (November 20) and Earbud Carriers (November 27).  And for the teen’s days of no school, there’s Teen D&D Character Creation (November 19), and Leaf Art (November 21).
Since no one likes to be left out, there are plenty of adult classes as well.  The always popular Gifts From Your Kitchen returns (Saturday, November 3).  It’s joined by the Scrabble Christmas Ornaments (Saturday, November 10), Rock Art Presents (Saturday, November 17), and Holiday Pillows (Novmeber 29).  And, what promises to be a fascinating class, Operation Paukenschlag explores an amazing story from World War II when the war was a lot closer to home than many realized (November 19).
There are many more classes being offered at your Eagle Public Library this November, including book clubs, senior programs, and programs for preschoolers.  For the complete list (including days, dates, and times), see the Library’s printed calendar, the City of Eagle Activity Guide, and the Library’s website.
