Hey friends!
It's super critical that we ALL vote on November 6th. If you can vote absentee or early go ahead and do it now! There may be long lines on election day. It is better to get your vote in now. I just sent my absentee ballot in yesterday.
You can also vote early in Los Angeles at 10 locations the two weekends before the election. Go get it done!
Here is my handy-dandy voting guide on the real estate related propositions:
Prop 1: California’s proposal for affordable and veterans housing
YES. I support it, and I think it has pretty widespread support. It would authorize the state to borrow up to $4 billion for affordable housing and home loans for veterans. It's a little misleading because only 25% of money would go to loans for veterans. It would fund a variety of things -- down payment assistance programs, other housing-related programs, loans, grants, projects and housing loans for veterans.
Prop 5: California Property Tax measure
YES. This bill is a tweek to Prop 13 (c. 1978) that cut property taxes. The hope is that it would encourage older people to sell their homes, that they might be staying in primarily because they have low property taxes. If passed, it would allow homeowners who are over the age of 55 or are severely disabled to continue paying property taxes based on the assessed value of their current homes when they sell and then purchase a new residence. So it is trying to open up inventory and get more houses on the market which I think is a great idea.
Prop 10: California Rent Control ballet measure
NO. I oppose it. It sounds good at first glance, but IMO It's not a great bill. We are in a housing crisis, and we desperately need to build new homes/units and this does encourage that. It could make the city more unattractive to developers and landlords. People love to hate on developers and landlords but we need them to make housing available.
If you want to discuss these or any of the other measures on the ballet feel free to text/call me at 213-840-4481.
XOXO
