Reformation Weekend

This weekend we celebrate the heart of our faith: the gospel of Christ—the good news—that makes us free! We pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to unite the church today in its proclamation and witness to the world. In the waters of baptism we are made one body; we pray for the day that all Christians will also be one at the Lord’s table.

2018 Fall Stewardship Campaign

Recently we launched the Plus One Fall Stewardship Campaign. During this time of the year, we consider what we are able to give of ourselves in 2019.

Submit your Financial/Time, Talents, and Touch commitments online.

We were overwhelmed by the number of people that came out to Trunk-or-Treat Wednesday night! We had an absolute blast, and hope you did too! Relive the chaos through some of our favorite photos. See the rest.

All Saints Family Dinner
6 p.m.
This coming weekend, November 3-4, our congregation will celebrate the Festival of All Saints Day during all four of our weekend worship services. All Saints Day is a time for the Christian Church to remember those who have died during the past year and to look with hope toward the promise of resurrection we have in Christ. At each of our worship services we will read the names and light a candle in memory of each disciple at St. John’s whohas died during the last year. A light supper will be served around 6:00 pm on Saturday, November 3 in the Adult Meeting Room for the families of those disciples who died this past year. Ms. Jan Costello, Hospice Spiritual Outreach Coordinator at Memorial Home Services, will join us for supper and offer a short presentation. Please let the church office (217-793-3933) know by Tuesday, October 30 how many from your family can be at the supper. We encourage the whole congregation, especially those who have lost loved ones, to come and worship with us then as we remember those who have died.
Connect Celebration Event

We did it!!! Our congregation’s first Connect series has been a success as over 100 disciples continue to gather over six weeks in 15 huddles as they explore the question, “What are you looking for?” All those who have participated in this fall’s Connect series are invited to a Connect Celebration Event on Saturday, November 3 at the Ace Sign Museum (2540 S 1st St, Springfield) from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Dinner will be shared prior to huddles competing against one another in a huge trivia competition led by local radio personality Jim Leach! Prizes will be awarded to the huddles with the highest and lowest scores! Don’t miss this fun evening of good food, good fellowship, and friendly competition! Watch for our next Connect series to kick-off in January!

Pastor's Message

Pastor Greg Busboom
Lead Pastor
pbusboom@stjohns-springfield.org

“For we hold that a person is justified by faith apart from works prescribed by the law” (Romans 3:28).

Money equals ministry. Our annual General Operating Budget this year at St. John’s totals $1,031,562. This number represents all of the ministry that is done each and every day through our congregation. Out of this number, we purchase Sunday School curriculum for our growing Sunday School ministry, provide Vacation Bible School and Sunday night Encounter, pay the salaries and benefits of our three pastors and all of our other ministry and support staff, sponsor a missionary in Madagascar, provide over $120,000 in support beyond the walls of our congregation for ministry across our synod and the ELCA, heat and cool our 50,000 square foot facility for all who use the building day in and day out, purchase music for our choirs to share in worship, and much, much more!
