TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS!

Rally in solidarity with the transgender community, in response to federal threats on trans civil rights.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26TH
5pm-7pm
SANTA CRUZ CLOCKTOWER
(CORNER OF WATER & PACIFIC)
Read below for the summary of what this memo means:
Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs that receive federal funding assistance. During the Obama administration, a series of decisions were made that loosed the conservative definitions of sex and gender so as to separate the idea of them being directly related, thus leaving room to include transgender individuals. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a memo suggesting that federal agencies need to adopt a uniform definition of gender to be based “on a biological basis that is clear, grounded in science, objective and administrable.” The revised definition would exclude transgender people from Title IX protections in schools, the workplace, health services, and many more institutions. Join us to rally in solidarity with the transgender community, in response to this threat on trans civil rights!
